Default Help Identify Turbo

Can someone help me identify the turbo on my car? I bought the car used with questionable history - it's had an drivetrain swap from a Turbo S that included the engine and turbocharger. Then, it had another engine swap from another 944 Turbo when the PO spun the #2 bearing. Somewhere in the mix, it ended up with a mystery turbo that has a PowerHaus ID plate instead of the normal ID plate. I called PowerHaus and they couldn't tell me much other than that it *could* be what they call their "cheater" turbo that uses some upgraded internal parts but looks stock from the outside. I'm not sure what their plan was, but I'm sure it's to get around some club racing rules or some such...

The bottom line is that I would like to know if there's anything that I can do without removing the turbo from the car that will tell me a little more about the turbo. I see a lot of talk about the "hot side" and how they differ, but I don't know how to tell them apart.

Here's what I know:
1. ID plate says PowerHaus
2. Inlet is 2" ID
3. Cold side markings (what I can see) are:
KKK B 5326 101 50 68
1821 226
4. Hot side markings (can't see much at all) are:
|||| |||||
53261016 (last digit may be an 8, not a 6)
there may be more markings, but i can't see them
6. Downpipe diameter is in the neighborhood of 2.6" ID

Can anyone offer me some info, or is this just going to be a mystery?

TIA

Why don't you e-mail/fax powerhaus those numbers since their name is on the tag?

It could be the DR K27/6 turbocharger they sell.........

The KKK part number for the K26 turbo used on the 86-88 951 (non-S) is KKK 5326 970 6720. The code "5326" identifies the cold side housing as a K26. K27 housings have part numbers starting with 5327. It definitely started out life as a K26, although who knows what PowerHaus has turned it into.

If it is a "cheater" turbo, then why would they put their name on it?

I called PowerHaus last spring, they claimed ignorance. They said that the only way they could tell me what it was would be if I could come up with their receipt from the purchase. Since that was at least 2 PO's ago, I don't have that option.

I'll take some pictures tonight and post them.

Thanks!
