let's put it this way when I changed from a 26/6 to a 27/6 and I first took it out, I couldn't even comprehend how fast it was. It blew my mind. But that's just my personal experience.

as for 30-40 hp more hp, maybe not at the same boost level, but it's not too far off.
it depends on your mods, if the 26/6 was restricting flow than certainly you could make that much.

it's a building block, and when you do another mod (say bigger intercooler) it will gain that much more.

Maybe it was $650.00. Or $690.00. I'm away from home so can't check the receipt.
That was to fix the damaged K26/6 and convert it to a K27/6. I'm not a fan of lag so I'll sacrifice 20 HP or so.... On my stock 2.5 with modified stock WG it holds 17 psi to redline in fourth gear - no problem. I don 't know abt 5th as I don't have a place to go 150+ nearby.

So what about getting a K27/6, a high quality grinder bit, and porting the absolute crap out of the turbine housing?

what?
the 27/6 has no more lag than the 26/6
they should have the same spool up characteristics considering they have the same hotside

How does weight relate to this at all?

I would think the k27 would have a slightly laggier turbo response as the compressor is bigger..even if the hot side stays the same..I guess it depends upon AR and Trim.

He means the wheel weighs more.
Which is rotating mass.

emw is that graph with the k27/6 7200 i heard before that if i was to upgrade that is the compressor i want to get. I am interested in this thread b/c originally i wanted to get a vitesse turbo kit, but if I get a k27/6 i can do so much more to my car and eventually get a vitesse kit later

it was a 27/6 yes
I've honestly never heard of a 7200 though.
it was pulled off a race car that had 8 hours on it,
so I don't really know what trim it was.

there is no more lag with the 27/6 than the 26/6.
(assuming the trim is suited to the turbo correctly)
if there is it is within 100 rpms.

I love your car's paintjob!
IMHO I would think that you wouldn't want to go back and redo something again (change out the turbo twice)
But if your doing the work yourself, it only costs you time to swap them out
and if you could sell the 27/6 for what you paid for it- then no harm done!

My comment abt lag vs. 20 HP was a -6 vs. -8 decision. The 27/8 will move more air (so they say) with a little more lag. I decided to just go with a 27/6 for starters, then go to MAF, etc.
I don't think my 27/6 cheater spools any faster than my old one, but it's close. Before the swap I had several small intake leaks, damaged turbo, etc so I can't comment on the difference in driveability between the two. I can say it's quick - quick enough that I can wait for the MAF for now ( I have another car if I need to scare myself). Hopefully, I'll be able to wick up the boost a bit and gain a bit more.
BTW - the K27/6 7200 is an oil only turbo that is a popular "stage 1" upgrade for the 930 guys. It was designed specifically to spool quickly - and it does, I've got one on mine. It runs out of steam a bit up top though...

Sorry to jump in, but TonyG has some hard proven dyno runs that show spool and power/toruqe between both K27/6 and K27/8, type in K27/6 and TonyG and see

I do all the work on my car with my dads supervision, he is a mechanic so he knows what he is doing. I was just thinking about how i could buy so much more other things for my car like a new clutch maybe a turbo S tranny, wheels, and a vitesse MAF kit to go with the k27.

As for the k27-7200 i thought if i were to upgrade my k26 i would go for the k27-7200 cold side because it is better than the regular k27? At least that is what i heard in a previous thread. I dont remember which one it was though.

I just got back from the local Dyno Day with mine. I have the files on disk, and I'll try to post them but my computer can't open them. Maybe somebody can convert and post. If they load and are huge I'll delete them...
Best run was 245.0 RWHP, 242.1 Tq. That's for a stock AFM 2.5 with a 27/6, K27/6 Vitesse chips, and 2.5" exhaust w/o cat. Oh, and at 13.5 psi boost. The MBC I have is garbage - it's 14 psi or 20 something.... EBC will be going on soon, so I can wick it up to 17 psi and hopefully get another 15 HP or so.

One note is the Afr bottoms out rich at abt 4200 rpm to 5500 rpm. I'm hoping it's because the chips are set up for higher boost and I'm not there yet...
Comments welcome.
