Default 951 Club Sport Theme

I have this idea to take out my center console and carpet that area instead from front to back. Then make a plate that can fit over the hole in the bottom of dash which could carry guages and other things, rewire the remaining switches to toggle style. Even rap the plate in leather or leatherette.....

Any ideas on were to get decent carpet for this job?
Has anyone out there done something like this? pics please.
You think this is worth going through considering i have a perfectly useable center console...

possibly cd player in the glove box connected to ipod.
or a bracket to fit with panel for gauges..

Why not keep the centre section near the dash as that fits in there nicely and if you make effectively a double DIN face you have a good mounting area for the gauges, then remove the rest as per your plan...

That was actually a thought nz951, I have a friend who wants to make me the front section from Stainless...But needs to cut my console up to make a template....

I guess SS would match the rest... the stock look is pretty minimal and with the tray instead or cassette box, it has pretty clean lines.
