Default Track your 944/951? Who is for real?

Lets see who really spends time on the track...

Please Rate your higest level of driving experience that you regularly perform.

Ie more than 2 times per year.

(Not if you autocross and DE alot just rate DE)

You have 7 choices.

DE Solo, 20+ track days a year, almost 50 total now. Signed off to Club Race over a year ago, just haven't taken the plunge yet due to other priorites. 2005 is the year though. Car is finally ready.

Just a note. Not sure if you were trying to imply this with your poll, but I wouldn't put Club Racing at a "higher level" than instructing.

Street only right now. Only tracks in my area are drag strips and oval circuits. Oh my, the excitment! Closest TRACK I have found is 2.5 hours away (5 hour round trip) and its still under construction. Ill be going when its done, apparently later this year. Of course it was also supposed to start construction in like 99 or 2k and finish in 2001... Washington only has drags, ovals, and dirt tracks that I can find.

This is why all the "take it to the track" people annoy me, not all of us live near Willow Springs/etc

DE solo and autox junkie.
DE: Got promoted to the black run group this year. (Stupid cup cars! ) Hoping to get into instructing at DE soon. I've been DE'ing since 2001. I do 5-7 events per year, about 12 days per year.

Autox: 2 year in a row class season champ, and I'm already an instructor for my region's autocross.

At this point, my goal is to become a DE instructor - I have no aspirations of getting into club racing....
....yet.

-Z.

PS: Closest track to me is about 2 hours - Pocono Raceweay. Lime Rock is about 2.5 hours.

Willow Springs is a 5 hr tow for me and for alot of folks.

Autocrosses are held very close to most folks. If you don't have PCA there is SCCA too.

Agreed, I consider anything under 6 hours away to be a "weekend trip", meaning I don't need to take time off to do a 2 day event.

Auto-X is anywhere from 10 minutes to 45 minutes away from me and still in the same club's region.

All the DE tracks are 2+ hours from me. There is (1) autocross a year in my town, so I travel 1 hour to the Tri-Cities for my autocross fix 6-10 times a year.
I hope to do a DE this year, it will be my first.

I feel very fortunate that I have Kansas Speedway about 10 minutes away from my house, Heartland Park is 35 minutes away, Mid-America in Council Bluffs, IA is about 3 hours, GAteway in St. Louis is about 4.5 hours and Hallett in Tulsa is about 5.5 hours away. Thats way more "track" than I have time for, altho I am hoping to spend a lot more time on the track this next summer.

How about NASA and other organizations like COMMA, which is exclusive to Hallett and features some cool "run what ya brung" racing? They don't really fit in here, in my opinion, as "club racing" to me conjures up PCA and SCCA, which is VERY regimented and rigid. The more casual organizations make it a lot cheaper and more fun to race, in my opinion,, as long as the safety is there.

Regards,

"Club Racing" is organized racing in at a "Club Level" as contrasted to Pro Racing. NASA, SCCA, PCA, POC, and whole host of local only groups are really racing "clubs" and therefore fit the definition of "Club Racing". In my mind racing in local "run whacha brung" class can be as competitive or more so than PCA Club Racing or even SCCA National racing. Is all racing to me. I only draw the line at Pro racing as the next step-up. Pro racing is just vastly different in its approach and goals.

There are very folks that race primarly at "Pro Level" there are however folks that race Semi-Pro. These are folks that maybe have raced a couple pro races in their lives and for what ever reason (money, time, effort), but often times not skill they chose to race at a club level.

There are a few Semi-pro folks on the rennlist, but the percentage is small.

I own a Cup car, it would be silly not to track it as often as possible.

If I had more money and time I would track more, that is the only limiting factor.

I'm going nuts on DE's this year. Mission (River's Edge) Seattle (PRI) and Portland (PIR) and hopefully Laguna Seca all this year if I can manage it.

I don't feel my car is "track-worthy" at the moment, so I haven't really considered it yet. Maybe next summer, if not then 2006 for sure. They built a brand new race track no more than 15 minutes away from me.

BRIAN: WTF are you talking about dude??? COME DOWN TO SEATTLE WITH ME, IT ROCKS! only a 2 hr drive!!!!!! Mission also has a road course segment which is tight and very wall-icous, but technical and fun (i'm told) nonetheless. So quit your whining about not living near a track!
