Default oil consumption / valves / guides & seals

OK. Head is off my 86 951. valve guide seals are shot, exhaust guides are worn out of spec. Can this and this alone cause excessive oil consumption (as in 1 quart in 400 miles)

thanks

Well that and bad turbo seals. I have a completely rebuilt head on my car and it consumes a lot of oil when on boost all the time (track). Definately the seals. But, I don't really care at the moment. As long as I can get 3 more years of DEs before school is done I am straight. I might rebuild the turbo in between. Not sure. I am stuck in the rebuild k26/step up to larger turbo thing. Hmmmm. Do I want to class it in PCA or say the hell with it and run just DEs. And so it plays out with another person.....

Yes!

I had a similar problem with my '87 NA. Valve guides were worn in an oval shape. New guides were about $4.00 each.

After the head was repaired my oli consumption dropped to almost zero.

This is also a good time to replace the oil filler/mist seperator O-Rings. Leaks here will also contribute to high oil consumption.
