Woot!!! I PASSED!

Here are the numbers: no changes from last time. Another tank full of "Clean Power" and that's it.

15mph
CO2-14.7
O2- 0.2
HC - 49 (max 116)
CO - 0.29 (max 0.74)
NO - 780 (max 791)

25mph
CO2 - 14.8
O2 - 0.2
HC - 38 (max 91)
CO - 0.16 (max 0.62)
NO - 278 (max 730)

This time the test was done in first gear at 15mph and 2nd gear for the 25mph run. He also didn't warm up the cat like I asked, he just started the test after letting it idle for 5 minutes. You can clearly see that in the 25mph when the cat warmed up the emissions took a drastic drop. The NO was 1/3rd of what it was.

So...what have I learned

1) Unplugging the altitude sensor is great for tuning, but you're gonna fail horribly if you don't have a functioning 02 sensor
2) 55lb or bigger injectors will NOT cause you to fail
3) You can run aftermarket chips....Danno's Guru chips in this case
4) The hi-flow cat appears to have done its job. I don't have any test data to support its performance against the stock one, but it seemed adequate for this test.
5) I really, really, really hate smog checks

Congratulations. I'm very pleased to hear you were able to pass the test as it makes it easier for me to consider upgrading my car more than it is - which is very little.

Congrats Mike! You wonder if that clean power did anything, or if smog tests are just going to be a crap shoot for our cars, depending on the whether, gas quality, warm-up time, etc.

So just to restate your saga:

1. You have Guru Chips, larger turbo and injectors.
2. You bought a new high flow cat.
3. You put 1 can of "clean power" in your tank.
4. You drove (approx how many miles).
You failed a smog test 1.

5. You removed a set of 1 step colder plugs and installed stock heat range.
6. You installed another can of "clean power"
7. You drove (approx how many miles).
You passed smog test 2.

Is this correct?

And where do you buy "clean power"?

For what it's worth, I used a bottle of emmissions stuff when I passed too. I think I used "guaranteed to pass" but don't recall exactly. It did come with a money-back guarantee if you failed a smog test while using it.

Lemme clarify.

Test 1:
1) altitude sensor unplugged so 02 sensor was not functional
2) Danno's Guru chips
3) New cat (500 miles maybe?)
4) One range colder NGK plugs
FAILED

Test 2:
1) Plugged in altitude sensor
2) Bottle of "Clean Power"
3) Stock heat range plugs
4) Drove about 200 miles (almost a full tank)
FAILED - Passed 5 out of 6 categories and would have passed if the 15mph test was run in 1st gear

Test 3:
Same as test 2: New bottle of Clean Power.
PASSED - High emissions on 15mph due to cold cat, but once it warmed up it was great

I got the "Clean Power" at my local auto parts store. Kragen or the other crap chains won't carry it but a reputable shop should have it. It's in a clear bottle with an orange label. Kind of looks like tequila and it even says "Do not drink" on the label. :-)
I imaginge any other emissions reducer would have done the trick.

This is one of the best threads I've found, good stuff!

I failed with the worst numbers evar, half a bottle of 104 booster in ~10gal premium, 30min of 65mph, AC running with car idling while waiting for the test.

2k on current oil, 4k on NGK BPR7ES plugs, 16k on hi-flow cat, 22.5k on O2 sensor installed 3/15/04.

Looks like and O2 sensor test is first on the list, and I suspect the cat may have a problem.

My friend Kevin has the Mike S. car now. It passed smog with no issues last year. Not to mention, it is a beast!
