OT: 4cyl=4,000 hp!!! Bob Norwood
I saw a show last night on the History channle that was all about drag racing.
At the end they interview Bob Norwood about his 4 cyl dragster that he is working on and hopes to get it in the NHRA once the rules allow it to be run.
It is based from an Inregra. Big CAST aluminum block with NO oil passeges. So the block was like 2-3 inches thick. Running twin turbo,NOS, and nitro.
He says it should run, once it is all tuned, less then 5sec at 250mph.

Yeah, the 968 Turbo based Doom car that was almost immediately banned from POC racing was a Norwood creation.
A number of Twin Turbo Testarossa's making north of 1000 HP also. mmmmmmm....Twin Turbo V12.....mmmmmm

Most drag cars don't need sufficient cooling... especially Nitro motors. They run better at high temperatures and get a good cooling effect at idle from the massive amount of fuel they use.
A 500 Cubic inch Keith Black nitro motor puts out about 8,000hp. Depending on how Norwood tunes it, he could be around the 4000hp mark. With the solid bottom end, he won't have to worry about expansion from pressure.
So far so good.. he's just got to get it tuned right.

I have spoken to Bob Norwood on several occasions, he is one of the nicest guys in the bidness and ultra knowledgable about turbocharging. Hey Paul, the Testarossa is a flat-12. Or you can call it a 180 degree V 12! There is a guy local to me who has a quad turbo Testarossa, tuned by Norwood. The car is remarkable.

"quad turbo Testarossa"
Holy *****!!! That has to be fast!!!
Yea, also the 4 cyl moter he is using is pretty big. Like 280-290c.i. So almost 2x the size of our motor.
They also mentioned on the show about nitro and it's orgins in drag racing etc. They said nitro only needs 1/10th the air to combut as regular fuel. WOW
So for us that would be like an a/f from 12 to 1 on gas then 12 to .1 on nitro?????
I know that some of the water/meth injection companies are saying they can run some nitro in the mix, instead of meth/alch.

the 16V 3,2L 900hp 951/968 Trubo engine he built was insane!!! it pulled till over 9K rpm and he admits to misshifts at over 11K and it held up
That is my goal for my street and occasional track car...and engine like that detuned to oooooohhh 750 or so rwhp.....
16V 3.1L engine.....mmmmm yup I agree with myself I will have it...hope it takes less than 3 years.

Three Wheelin'
I thought those motors were highly unreliable, I believe they had serious headgasket issues. From what I know they never finished a track session in one piece.

well it took a few tries but he got a couple to finish....I mean it takes time to have a 900 rwhp engine last a full race...and keeping that in mind I would still detune it to around 700 rwhp wich would make it reliable..his engines were 3.2 and even 3.4....I would have a sleeved 3.1 or alusil 3L ...It's really the head I want...our cars inherently have a substancial turbo lag time and I hate to see us rev only till6.5K let's even say 7 K..especially with some of the turboes someof us have..I know mine at 20 psi could pull till 8 ...the head....not.....I am not a scientist so I won't break it down to you liek say Laudst and others would...but I do know engines and have had a wide variety of different engines rebuilt..strated with a ford 302. went on to Japanese cars wich I still admire due to their high revving potential then on to 911's and 930 for wich I still havemuch love for but no money.....but finnaly I was really impressed byt the 951 for wich I previously had little regard and respect..I was wrong..and glad I was...now I would like to find a way to build a relatively cheap 3L 16V Turbo engine for my 951..so far I am in the oppinion that while one may get away with not spending too much on the blocck, one would have to be serious about the head...lot's of research, work and money.......for example I heard of people trying to use a 2.7 head wich does not have ceramic coating like a turbo head......worried about reliability.....?anyway I hope if time and money allows I will have my engine in 3 years...

I have seen the Doom II car pull a full on 3.8L 993T race car and make it look like it was standing still. Maybe even going backwards. Yeah, it was that fast.
