I got ya. It's not illegal to change out speedo's here; I just know it can jam you up on resale value.
I thought the 5th gear on Cuppies was shorter? Taller? Whatever. I know they are faster (duh!), just had no idea they are THAT much faster. Only makes the desire burn hotter.

I need to find somebody to interview who was around at Porsche when they put down the specs..
And when it comes to resale value on a 18 year old car in very good condition with an extra speedo I don't think it matters to much.

To reach 190 mph you'll need at least 350 rwhp at the rpm where you reach that speed. With stock 951 gearing and 17" inch wheels it requires around 7000 rpm. With the normal 951 power curve that peaks around 5500-6000 it would equal more than 375 rwhp at those rpm. I have never heard that Turbo Cup car should be in the 350-375 rwhp range?

Right now I can hit my rev limiter at 6700 rpm, it will be interesting to see if I'll be able to hit the new 7080 rpm rev limit. According to my calculations 311 hp at 6700 rpm is needed for the performance the car delivers now. With raised boost from 1.05 bar to 1.25 bar and injectors and chips to match I hope that it will be possible.
And no, I have not dynoed the car so I have no other numbers.

Don't forget that the indicated reading will actually be higher than your true groundspeed. 8-12% overread on most Porsche speedo's. (Although I'm not sure if your shop retained the overread calibration or if they made it perfect...)
PS. I want one too.

Note: I contacted North Hollywood Speedometer for calibrating the 944 Turbo speedo. They charge anything from $80-$150 depending on what is needed for calibration (km/hr or mph) AND they would also install and calibrate different dial faces, i.e. install a 300kms+ (180mph+) for an extra $30.

Requires 1 week turnaround time BTW.

Anders: That i am not sure, besides you are comparing an older 959 speedo which probably needs calibration to a 'newly' calibrated one. So the price has an advantage i guess, regarding the dial face, i inquired about the 300km/hr (180mph) face, im sure they could get the 959 one in there since they would 'fit'.

More than one 944 Turbo Cup car has been timed at over 300 Km/h on the Mulsanne straight when they were there. I have a video of that somewhere, taken from my car. And yes, timed, not speedometer values.
The Turbo Cup had stock gears, as the 944 Turbo S has.
Asarus will chime in I'm sure.

Here is a pic of the speedo in the gauge cluster, I was thinking of using the holes for the 959 headlight and trip-reset for shift lights. It will be a nice little touch.

Thomas, I have the factory and importer documentation on these cars that show the gearing is std 944 Turbo. My car has been through scrutineering at more that one race, and the gearing is a std setup as on any 951S. The car is lighter, has about 320 Hp, and smaller mirrors. It does 300+.
