Default Head to head gauge comparison

Does anyone know of any head to head comparison of gauges per brand. Where each companies gauge series goes against standards for accuracy and repeatabily. I've read 3 pages of posts on gauges (mostly boost) and googled but can't find one.

I'm interested in finding which gauges are the most (and remain the most over time) accurate across a manufacturer's series....mainly boost/vac, EGT, and oil temp.

TIA

There was an issue with Autometer boost gauges a while back. I remember though someone tested their boost gauge with the dyno boost gauge and was dead on.

Never heard anything regarding EGT or oil temperature gauges, search for 'autometer' and find the posts.

There is some history about this issue, Autometer mostly were off, VDO were better IIRC. You can always move the needle if you find its that off. You could grab a portable gauge and tap in the manilfon with a T and see how you go. I check mine against the Link readings...

You cant open Autometers without buggering it up... At least not that my buddy and I could see. Its all a sealed unit I think.

We tried the rather unscientific method of banging it around, but that only improved it a bit.

I have a VDO unit, its not sealed as such, they have a bezel which is kind of crimped on, but its pretty easy to take off. I took mine off to point the needle to match the Link gauge and to match the screws.

vdo is best.
autometer is decent, but only if you buy the expensive 'high-end' models.
if you have loads of money to spend on gauges, you can get defi gauges, which are supposed to be accurate AND very cool looking (and very, very expensive).
everything else pretty much sucks.

just stick with vdo, you can't go wrong and they match the stock gauges (which are also vdo).

I'm just trying to find an independent comparison using standards...I'm pretty sure some car magazine had to of had a gauge shoot out at one point....I'm hoping someone on here can point me to it because I haven't been able to find it. I can't see paying 30 dollars for a gauge if it isn't accurate....we all have inaccurate boost gauges (VDO) in our dash cluster to start w/. I also can't see spending 300 on a gauge if it is only as accurate as the 30 dollar.

It is not a matter of the stock gauge(s) being inaccurate, after all these years you expect electronics to keep performing they day they were made? that is why calibration is needed (that is what i did on my speedo where i STILL don't see a difference in high speeds).

VDO and Autometer are fine and both are resonably accurate (as you see some prefer one to another).

Well a 300 is likely an electronic opposed to mechanical, so its justifiable.

It does not really bother me which as I dont tune off the gauge... so a 25 VDO does just fine.

i've actually head-to-head compared a vdo vs. autometer boost gauge. read here;
