Default LOST ONLY Key to my 951

Its too bad my first post had to be like this, I own a 86 951 brought from Europe I lost the only key to my car.

What are some possiple options to solve this frustrating problem.

*Is it possible to get a key made through the use of my VIN number, I imported the car from Europe.
*Do i need to change all my locks (tumblers) on the car, i want only one key to work everything...Like factory...

*or is it posssible for a lock smith to craft me a key using the gas cap tumbler as a starting point??? or any Lock for that matter???

if anyone has a parts car that i could purchase all locking mechanisms to switch over let me know too..................

Any help would be great, thank you to all that respond and Happy Holidays

Talk to your dealer or a locksmith. You don't want to change all the tumbers just because you lost the key.

Welcome to Rennlist.

If it turns that yu need the tumblers and lockng mechanisms, look to Parts Heaven or Oklahoma Foreign for the parts you need.

If you can get in the car, just remove the drivers side lock and take it to the
locksmith. I you use any other lock it will not work (More tumblers in the drivers lock and ignition).

Underneath the carpet on the left side in the rear, you'll find the motor that opens/closes the sunroof. There is a black plastic cover over a nut on the motor(don't remeber the size). Turn the nut to operate the sunroof.

Best of luck!

You can use the spark plug tool from your factory toolkit to manually crank the motor for the sunroof.

Once you get access to the sunroof motor (drivers side above the rear cubby) youll see a small black domed cover over the gearbox (donut looking thing in front of the little motor). The cover just snaps on, pop it off and you see TWO nuts, small one on top of the big one. The BIG one can be used to manually work the sunroof, DO **NOT** turn the little one, it adjusts the torque of the slip clutch, so you dont want to get into that unless there is a reason to. IIRC the big one is 17mm, but im not sure.

The locksmith *should* be able to make one from your door lock cylinder. If they say they can't then call a better locksmith. I've been through this for a few of my customers that have done the same thing. they take a impression of your cylinder with a wax like key and cut a few until one works. Once you get a ringer then order a original key head and blank!

When you get a new key, you'll find the original.

Is the key lost like it fell out of your pocket in a crowded public place and theres no way of finding it? Or is it lost like you just left it around the house somewhere and its probably under a couch or something? If thats the case, the simplest solution would just be to find the key.

The end is near, I can almost hear the sweet sound of my fresh belts and rollers. A locksmith is on the way and he says he can set me straight. Boxing day special price to re key my lock...$180.00can. Thanks Rennlisters for all your helpful advice. I hope for that price I get 4 keys....

Ill let you contemplate that last reply.....
