Talking performance shop for 944Turbo in VA/MD/DC area?

If things go through, I could be a proud owner of an '86. Wanted to further get myself excited by looking at upgrade options.

Any suggestions in VA/MD/DC area?

Thanks in advance.

I (and a lot of others) go to IMA Motorsport in Fairfax, VA. You'll see a lot of 944s there in various states of 'upgradeness'.

Ivan is the owner. Be forewarned, though, he, like a lot of other shop owners, is stingy with offering free advice unless you're actually going to use his services. I'd wait until you at least have the car or have an idea of an upgrade budget or performance target before you speak with him.

well I'm working on the deal now.. hopefully I'll secure the car by Friday.

As for Ivan, I figure he can give me advice and if it sounds appealing, I'll spend my money in his shop. It's his job to sell. Dunno about this "free advice if u get service from my shop" idea he may have. Relationships first, then you get loyal customers like myself.

There are a bunch of choices, each with their own following and particular speciality. Ivan at IMA defiinitely knows his stuff... as do Charlie and Omar at Intersport in Tysons Corner... Personally, I've found all (and most especially Charlie at Intersport) to be extremely generous with their advise, whether buying or not.

You might want to consider looking at the local PCA chapter's (Potomac) web site/buletin board (www.pcapotomac.org) and perhaps posting your question there... it's sure to get you plenty of responses...

I'd also like to suggest you give IMA a try. Go in there with an open mind. Look at the number of 944's and 968's sitting around Ivan's shop and then compare with the others in the area. Ivan runs the place, turns the wrenches, and drives/races Porsches, but with an emphasis on 944's . . . this sets him apart from others in the area, IMHO.

Another vote here for IMA. Have you had a pre-purchase inspection done on the car, KJ? If not, it's HIGHLY recommended. IMA is a good place to go for the PPI, and you can talk over possible upgrades with Ivan while you're there.

It's been through one similar (technically not PPI, but he had it inspected and only thing they found were 2 leaky injectors are being replaced). Just talked to him and I'm excited.

I've gotten my service done at IMA in the past....Ivan knows his stuff! However, Chris Prack was the tech that actually did the work on my car....I don't think Chris is there anymore. Anyone know where he is?

Chris now works at the HBL dealership. Unfortunately, HBL is probably the LAST place you'd want to take a 951 for performance mods!
