Default Interior LCD clock light not lighting up

The clock on the dash no longer lights up when key on. Its an 87 951.

This is the LCD clock on the dashboard between the hazard switch and cigarette lighter.

It was working fine yesterday but all of a sudden it does not seem to light up. However, its still running and keeping accurate time plus the stop watch feature is still working too, althogh difficult to read clearly

1) Have you come across this before?
2) Any suggestins on what to check / how to fix it?

Cheers, Loi

Yes, I've replaced mine before. You can get the light bulb for a few bucks at the local dealership. If you check Danno's page, it will have directions on removing the clock (you aren't going to follow them all, as he replaces the clock with something else):

Warning:
BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN TAKING OFF THE HEATER CONTROL PANEL.
Let me say it again:
BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN TAKING OFF THE HEATER CONTROL PANEL.

If you don't carefully pry it off from all angles, there is a good chance you will break it or crack it.

Other than that, it's pretty straightforward.

As usual, Clarks Garage has excellent directions (click “Garage Shop Manual” and “Clock”).

I went through the bulb change a couple of weeks ago. The clock is removed from the panel via two small Philips screws and slides out of two taps. The bulb bayonet socket was a bit tough to remove. Get a low wattage similar instrument bulb.

Thumbs up

Did this replacement about a month ago.

Ditto on the "be very careful with the HVAC control trim piece" removal! It's fragile and is held by small tabs at both Middle L & R sides, Middle Top & Bottom, and Top & Bottom of both rotating **** openings; those being the real 'crack sites'.

When you have the clock removed then I found a 5/16" open wrench fit the bulb holder and a 90 degree anti-clockwise rotation; looking at the backside of the clock; will release it from th IC board so that you may replace the bulb. The socket is a tight fit over the two solder connections on the IC board.

You'll be happy with the results once completed. Also, I wouldn't try the alternative 'remove the glove box' procedure, not enough room to work and too many components in the way.

Here it is, I got it second hand...

You just have to screw around with the pin assignments in the connector block (not too hard), drill out a hole in the mirror for the sensor.
