Default K26/6 vs K26/8 Compressors

Does the K26/6 have the same compressor as the K26/8? And, is the turbine on the K26/8 larger, or is just the housing orifice larger?

The 26 part of K26 refers to the compressor size. The /6 or /8 part refers to the turbine housing size for sure. The turbine impeller I don't know about

I have only read about it, never had them apart etc. From that, the compressor section is the same (K26). The turbine is larger, the housing machined to accomodate it. "There is no external difference". Maybe somebody with more experience will chime in?

Sounds like the same compressor to me, but there are many K26 options so I want to be sure. I think the No. 6 wheel and housing will be fine for me...I have 2.25 liters driving it, not 2.5. My guess is I can have full boost by 4,200-4,500 in 1st gear, then from there it only gets better as the gears go up. Electronic wastegate control will be of assistance with the spool times. I will probably go with a 7 lb spring, then let the gate controller hold the boost out to the final number. One of my K26/6 arrives today, so I am excited about taking some measurements on the wheels and specifically the turbine side.

I will run these at about 12-14 psig (probably 10 on average...remember this is a V8), which should yield over 400 RWHP on my 4.5 liter with the Euro camshafts. With the IHI RHB-6 units and stock cams it made 366 HP and 385 ft-lbs to the rollers. Stock cams are really bad in the 80-82 928...it is a low lift low duration emissions camshaft. I plan to change over to Euro camshafts (+2mm lift on each lobe) and the K-26 units to make it much more enjoyable of a ride...i.e. better low end with smaller turbine housings and better cams to move the peak HP about 500 RPM higher while increasing it at the same time. The euro camshafts are documented to make a 30 HP improvement on a 4.5 US 928 normally aspirated...so they should be worth 1.5X that on the bottle.

I'm putting the Goldmember back on the road this weekend. It is wearing a set of K-24s with No. 6 hotsides. Engine is brand new...Nikasil bores with JE pistons. Fun sleeper of a ride that will be for sale after I get all the turbo parts jigged up for reproduction. Such a shame it has a 3-spd auto...
