Default Tiptronic...pros and cons in 951's...

My tires violently break loose all the way into third gear. I would like to launch better and save my clutch. Does anyone have any insight on the tiptronic trans for our cars, particularly mine. I would have to say I am reasonably stupid as far as technical knowledge here on our cars as some of you guys blow me away with your knowledge. I don't know if it will make my car slower, if gearing is different etc. Any help or advise is appreciated, thanks.

If it can take the power you would get bigger transmission losses. Maybe you could limit the boost in first, second and third gear instead?

I don't think the 968 tiptronic trannies can handle that much power. You might be able to have a mutt tranny fabbed up, but I think the cost involved would be sky high.

I was told the yellow Kelly Moss MoTeC 968 3L turbo used some kind of "Audi Racing" gearbox. Maybe you can call powerhaus or Kelly Moss and ask them or advice.

Sounds like you need one of those heavy-duty competition clutches Konstantin was asking about for a friend's 944 that runs nitrous.

Given that your car is listed "For Sale" then why worry about it?

The tiptronic is not a great transmission, porsche is way behind in that department. The tips are slow to shift, and not much more than a glorified slush box. IIRC porsche will be replacing the tip with the DSG style system developed by audi/vw.

You would have better luck using one of the standalone engine management systems and rigging it with traction control.

The problem with throttle modulation is that it's not sensitive enough on a high boost turbo car.
No, what you need is a Racelogic traction control system!

Do what sweanders says. Get an electronic boost controller and rig up input into it for gear selection. It would have to be custom for our cars. But, you can do per gear boost controller.

the 968 turbo had taller gears to cope with all that torque. why not find a 6-speed 968 tranny and re-gear to 968 turbo tranny specs. raj's 968 turbo replica has an original 968 turbo tranny, and i'm sure he has the specs. look him up, i think his member name is '968TurboS', but i'm not sure.

I move that nonimation to be closed. Racelogic traction controll is a gift from god for high hp cars that can spin easily at 70mph. I have witnesed it first hand and I think its a great system and very easy to use. Now installing it however I have no idea.

My buddy with the 713hp lexus is uses racelogic....man it work's good.

Wouldn't it be an easier solution to fit your car with wider tires?? (and of course other body mods to keep them from rubbing) I'm gonna have to go with Rich on the fact that they would totally ransack your wallet if you wanted to do such a thing, its just probably not cost effective to start retrofitting old cars like this with spanking new technology. Wouldn't something like 9-10 inch wide be plenty of rubber to keep the wheels from spinning?

The big tires would really make it tough to get a fast launch I would guess because theyre not gonan let you spin the tires very well to get into the turbo range. A modern CVT would be great, but still tooooo expensive.

Uhmmm I had no problem limitting boost in each gear with an AVC-R........ 12 psi in 1st gear.......etc.... 15 psi in 3rd etc

and considering how much you have spent on that car I am sure you could have something custom made that will limit boost in every gear..............

I am ordering the racelogic traction/launch in a couple months. I am going to install it myself and make all the info available on rennlist for 951 installation.
