Default Problem Resetting the SEATBELT light..

I deleted the rear seatbelts in my 951.
I had the passeger seat out of the car for a couple weeks, and put it back in today. I followed the reset procedure for the airbag light numerous times, but the seatbelt light is still on. I've tried buckling in the seatbelt, but it still does not clear.

What do I have to do to reset the seatbelt light?
If the rear seatbelts are missing, will the light remain on?

Thanks

does your airbag light come on when you start up your car?

(this is actually relevant - if your airbag light is burnt out or removed, the seatbelt light will stay on forever...)

Otherwise, check the connector beneather the driver's seat. The pax seat and rear seats do not have any sensors to indicate seat belt is connected or not. (at least not on my 86 or 87..)

The reset procedure, the 5 second intervals are very GERMAN precise. I had to get help to reset my airbag light; couldn't do it by myself. Got the wife, stopwatch, reset it first try.

I've reset mine several times and within a few seconds the "!" and belt light come back on,

I drove the car for one week when it was new to me and no "!". Took her down for three weeks of restoration and after two hours of break in driving the damn thing came on.

Countless efforts have failed, the light still does not clear.
I have done it a thousand times with 2 people and a stopwatch, it wont reset.
What could cause this?

Thanks.

Did you replace the airbag light? If you didn't, the seatbelt light will continue to light up until the airbag light has been repaired/replaced.

It's a failsafe design, if there is something wrong with the airbags, but the airbag light has been removed, the seatbelt light will light up as a secondary airbag warning light.

It might be that someone installed a non-airbag aftermarket momo type steering wheel - causing the airbag & ! lights to go off. In frustation, the PO removed the airbag light. This would have caused the seatbelt light to now light up. No amount of resetting the airbag will work until that light is replaced.

Rich,

When I put the key in the second position, the airbag light does not turn on.
So the airbag light must not be funtioning, I did take the cluster out once to replace the temperature gauge, and since then the "!" and seatbelt light have been on. No wonder...
So..What do I do to get the light to work again?

Rich,

Is there any way I can trick the airbag system into thinking its working problem, via a jumper or something?
I want to get rid of that seatbelt/idiot light! I know it's on secondary mode because the airbag light does not light up when the key is in the second position..

The computer runs an internal error check routine and goes thru the whole airbag circuit. if there are any failures, it will trigger the "!" and "airbag" lights. I have no idea how to circumvent this error checking routine, but I would guess it involves taking out the dash cluster anyway.

In my car, we had to take out the dash cluster and replace the "air bag" light bulb in order to make the "!" and "seatbelt" lights go out. I am willing to bet you must do the same.

Removing the cluster shouldn't be a problem, I've done it several times already.
But, do you have any pictures of the bulb that I need to replace?
What size bulb do I need, are they available at generic auto stores, or Porsche only? Any tips for replacing it?

Thanks

I was lazy and had the shop do it.

When you take apart the dash, it'll be the light under the "airbag" icon. I have no idea which of the three it is in this picture...:

It's not #12... It should be like a 1W light bulb. It will probably have an integrated base (i.e. soldered to the plastic base), so that may make it a dealer-only item?
I guess you could swap it with the seatbelt light bulb
