Default Curiousity......

Does/Has anyone run their 951 without the muffler, so that the exhaust flows straight out of the testpipe?

Any input on this?

Thanks.

My buddy runs no muffler with the stock cat. Sounds wicked!

Jason,

Is it okay to release the exhaust a couple feet shorter than normal? Any other issues (other than sound decibal violations) that can be created running without a muffler?

Uh....no and then yes!
Exhaust gases will find their way into the cabin & having the exhaust coming out right by the gas tank is not a good idea.
My friend has a piece of tubing welded in place of the muffler, so it comes out at the same place and looks stock.

If the exhaust is to short it can (did on my car) melt the paint off the rear bumper.

Could you just gut your muffler and run it through that? That way, even if it is loud, it still looks like its got a muffler on.

well i took off my muffler for a track day.it was wicked loud(in a good way).when i reved it,it would make a swirly sound(almost like a turbo spool).and it just screams on full WOT.i put it back on because the rear seats(no seats just carpeted) would get nice and toasty.also my parents got a little irritated.i just cant wait to get the new lindsey 4" DP exhaust system.3" to 3.5" to 4",w/o wastegate tie in.no cats no mufflers.at least this way itll be loud in the back of the car, rather than a no cat-back,where you could hear the loudness inside the cabin.hope this helps

The stock muffler is pretty much a pipe with a bunch of holes in the walls running through a chamber. No need to gut it, louder does not always mean better.

The 951 Cup cars have no muffler at all...

If you want an idea of the sound, have a look at these sounds/videos
