Are all 1986 dme/klr chips the same?

hmm good question.
I know that there are different numbers of pins on the chips but as for differing years???
Maybe. My car came w/o cruise control, a rear wiper, sunroof, etc
so I would think I would have less pins on my chip.
But that's just a guess

I KNOW that mine has more pins on it because I had to get a new set from guru.com when I got my chips. Of course, I have almost every option on my car except LSD, but it says cool with the cooler.

AFAIK all 951 DME:s prior to 88 have a 24 pin chip. Later cars got the 28 pin DME chip.
The KLR has 24 pins for all years.
I have never heard that DME/KLR programming was different for different options on the car.

Options don't have any inpact on the number of pins on the DME or KLR. The reason yours could be different is because a PO replaced the computers with those from a later year.
