I'm looking at buying a 951 soon and found one with a white interior (I haven't gone to see it in person yet but the owner assured me it was white, not tan). I wasn't aware that this was even offered on our cars. Is this something rare? The outside is white as well.

In 88 they had an interior called light grey, and in 89 a bit brighter version was called linen. Both are off white, not quite tan. I've heard anything was possible if you paid big $$, but these off white options are not really uncommon.
Here's a shot of linen (sans shifter) I can see how somebody would call this white:

Well, the PO was advertising the car I bought as "wine" exterior with "white and black" interior. It turned out being Velvet Red Metallic over Linen leather. Linen looks white after it's been in the sun for years. The white exterior over tan interior combo seems popular in Calif. and Florida on many cars, probably because of the sun and beaches.
