Question Turbo upgrade question.

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me it is worth to upgrade from K26/6 to K26/8 turbo
what is advanced and disadvanced about it?
is it direct bolt -on?

88 none S Guru 18Psi, Tial WG, LSD, billet valve and cat back exhaust.( testpipe soon)
I'm looking at 280-300RWHP.

Thanks,
Jim

I would go with a k27/6 if you plan to upgrade, a good set of chips you will be putting down some good power.

An upgrade to a K27/6 would be more recommended than the k26/8 since the #8 would add more lag than the K27 upgrade.

GURU Racing also has some k27 chips

screw the laggy 26/8
the 27/6 is more topend power with the same spool up time.

27/6 > 26/8

advantages - less lag, more top end
disadvantages - mild tweaking to fit

Thank you so much,
I'll go with K27/6 instead of k26/8.

Why not K27/8

Dont make your decision yet... do a search, look at some vendors, ask if you need a list of them...

The one advantage of the K26/8 is that the stock J-boot will fit on it. With the K27, or most of the aftermarket turbos, the inlet is too big for the j-boot to fit. Unless you have a MAF, you'll need to get creative to attach the intake... It is way worth it, but you need to factor it in...

The J- boot is easy to adapt to fit a k27/6 or k27/8. I would definatley look into a k27/8 before I picked up a k27/6.

For the JBoot, just hack the end off or is it doable with some silicon transistion hoses? Im looking at a K27/6 and would like to avoid circumsizing my BRANDNEW jboot if its doable

Do a search, some people attached a K27 using an adapter and some cut off some of the j-boot untill it fitted into the K27.

As i mentioned, a K27/6 or a K27/8 would definately need a custom chip if you have the AFM. Doing another search on the #6 vrs the #8 hotside, i remember TonyG saying that the amount of lag the K27/8 has and the advantage of 10-20hp in the upper revs were not worth it.

Both K27's are capable of supporting 320+whp, it's all about the hotside now

I can supply you with both the J-pipe adapter and the K27/6 chips...

K26, either /6 or /8 is a much better match for a 2.5L engine than any k27.

K26/8 is a direct bolt-in where the 26/8 is.

Should go to a dyno and get your fuel mixtures right because the 26/8 makes 35 more Hp

wbd3

How do you figure the k26/6 or 8 is a better match than k27/6 for 2.5 liter?

Either way you will need chips.

K26 runs in a sweeter spot on the map than a K27, ie, it is much more efficient. The first variable for the compressor is the engine displacment and KKK and Porsche both used K27's on engines closer to 3 liters.

K27 makes lots of pressure inefficiently on a 2.5 liter engine.
