Default Anyone heard of Unichip???

Have had a few problems with the way my car is running lately so have been considering buying a piggyback of some kind for fine tuning, my car is in a garage getting headgasket replaced and they have suggested the Unichip as i have no experience of tuning, was just wondering if anyone has any experience of the unichip?? this is in the uk but i am assuming that the unichip is not only available in the uk

Austalian company. My experience is through my Subaru WRX. I bought an upgrade package from Vishnu (http://www.vishnutuning.com). Unichip is really popular. Seems very reliable.

its a company here in scotland called dastek that fits the unichip, they dyno your car and custom map it for your set-up, giving you the most out of your car for what you have got, it is similar to a piggyback but set by them on a dyno then left till any further upgrades, s i dont understand how i could use your unichip??

The unichip is a piggy back computer that you put on your car. You can choose to buy one new or a used one, it will still need to be programmed.

I bought one to put on the 928GT I had earlier but never came around to install it and now it's just sitting on a shelf.

The UniChip is a PiggyBack, I looked at using it for the 951 years ago (before they became available in the US). At first they could not support the 951, now they do. Hoockup is way too cumbersome. The real drawback is that it's not user programmable. Each time you want to program it, you have to take it to the shop that has the tools required to program it ($$$).

Inreality what Dastek is doing is the correct way.
No 2 cars are alike & you can be sure that if properly
mapped, you're getting the best power out of the car.
Inshort it's just like us buying chips, installing WB sensors
& piggy backs fiddling with the tuning ourselves.
It might be cheaper to get the Dastek to install cause
you save money on dyno time as well as the need to buy
a WB unit.

John, maybe not being programmable by me is not really a bad thing!!! i have no experience with this sort of thing, i am also terrible at wiring things up, i have managed to blow up 2 rennbay narrowband air/fuel gauges on install, so for someone like me maybe getting it done professionally by someone else is the way to go

Unichip are from Dastek in South Africa much like SMT6 are from PowerPerfect in South Africa.
Apparently they are ex-partners. Much like Autronic and Motec in Australia.
