Other than tragic, I have one word for that ..."negligence". Find a good lawyer, do not talk to the insurance company or anyone else until you do. You have a huge club, but wield it with reason. You should end up keeping the car, and having a replacement in like condition. Some reasonable punitive damages are in order for a situation like this. It is not necessary to test drive for a cooling system pressure test or oil change.

Looks like a great track car candidate though.

Hehe.

You ought to go Whammyburger on this guy who hosed up the car. His shop was violent to your car. I think you should be violent to his pocketbook.

Just an update on this situation. My father settled with the shop's insurance company for fair amount and I bought the car back from salvage. I'll be selling off everything I don't keep for my own car. Will start a new thread soon

For sure, the tranny and front spindles will not be for sale

nice one tifo!

i hope a "reasonable amt" was somewhere in the line of 2-3x what the car was worth, i'd crucify a shop who did this to me...

Sorry to read about the joy-ride and totalled car. This happened to my Probe GT Turbo many years ago. The body shop was doing a test-run, lost control and ended up smashing into a tree.

Be sure that there is no money owed for any damage to the fire hydrant. Property damage can be expensive and should not come out of your pocket. In my case, many months later, the town where the accident occurred came looking for the tree money. I made sure they knew the body shop to call for the payment as I was not at fault.

Best of luck with your salvage operation.

Thanks everyone for interest in the parts. But as I said above, I'll start a new thread (complete with better pictures) when it becomes clear what items will be sold.

Now that the car is finally back in the driveway, I need to take a closer look at everything and evaluate it. That and bounce a few ideas off my mechanic and father.
