Well - I think the actual first production for turbo cabriolets was in 1987 (even for ROW) so I'm assuming it's a cab with a modified drivetrain and body. Sounds like LOTS of things in that description were either wrong, exaggerated, or scary, but I'm sure it's still a stupid fast car, for a lot cheaper than you could find any factory turbo cab for. Best of luck with a prototech motor, I'll start the countdown to nuclear grenading now...

*Edit* I particularly like the part where David admits to rolling back the Odometer to 0...glad he's not an auto dealer and subject to the fraud laws we are 'cause I'd already be in jail for something like that!

That car probably has more chassis flex and cowl shake than a 1973 Ford Pinto......Stretchy Mcguinty.............

Thanks
Hi all:

Regarding the color, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. My wife loves it and she is a happy camper cruising around in it! I happen to really like the color and the Strosek body design. Regardless, the car is reaaally clean inside and out. Bob Aziano is one of the best 911 body specialists in the country and in talking with him he went all out on this one and it shows!

David Hart at Prototech is also known as one of the premier 911 engine guys in the country and he told me that the previous owner that commissioned this car was an absolute fanatic and money was no object to him... performance was. They started with a 1986 930 motor & 915 transmission, tore it completely apart and completely rebuilt them to "as new" condition with some upgrades like porting an polishing, cam profiling, etc. I do beleive the 400 HP claim. She really goes! While driving home at 120 mph (somewhere in Kentucky) I floored it and the car literally threw me back into the seat (I would not doubt that 170 mph is possible... not that I'm going to find out). It ran all the way to Minneapolis (1600 miles) with out missing a beat or burning a quart of oil. It doesn't the greatest gas mileage though, only 16.5 mpg on the highway.

Regarding the 2000 lb weight, I too do not beleive that, but the car can't be very heavy so i'm sure that it's below 3000 lbs.

Regarding engine pictures, there's nothing to see but that big ol Prototech custom intercooler (claimed to be 95% efficient vs. the factory 17%). It takes up all of the space underneath the huge whale tail! But save it to say that the engine compartment is spotless.

I'm really happy with the car. It is really qutie a bit different than my 1986 951 (944 Turbo), or the 1995 Miata or the 1981 RX-7 that I also own. I am still learning to drive it. The others are more refined and easier to drive. But it has soooo much power it is incredible. I don't know what would be fastest on the track the 951 or the 911. I do know that on an autocross course the Miata would blow them all away and back in the early 80's the RX-7 I was never beaten by any Porsche in the RX-7 on an autocross course. On Brainerd International Speedway it wasn't even a close race, the Porsches' blew me away because of their incredible straight line speed (different cars for different purposes). At any rate, the 911 won't be seeing the track since it is too dear to take a chance on wrecking. I have the 951 for that purpose. PS, I only paid $9500 for that one and unquestionably it is the best performance value out there!.

Anyhow, thanks for all of yor comments.

Hi MachSchnell:

I appreciate your comments. Yes the car is stupid fast but it is not running a whole lot of boost and in talking with David he told me that he was pretty conservative with the tuning, erring on the side of longevity vs all out power. You indicated that you predicted that it would blow up. Can you tell me why you think that and if specifically there is anything that I should look out for. While I admit that I am not a 911 expert, I am an experienced engineer, machinist and all around car guy and based on what I could see the car is very well put together and the work seemed to be done well. Any comments that you could give me would be helpful.

Thanks! Tom
