I noticed on a couple of other boards that the owners had 1 dedicated thread to post their pics and show off their wares....I figure that we can start one on the 944 Turbo/951 board. I will go ahead and start. Here are my pics.... With a few mods listed below in my sig... I also painted the rear tail lights, side markers and front blinkers...all red, installed an antenna on the roof, and installed a A-pillar boost gauge and a custom gauge plate under the radio.

Black 944turbo: thanx! Your ride are very sweet as well! The bodypaint is so black, black! If you understand?:) Realy like that deep black colour!
Theres many beautiful 951`s here!! :D |
Sami951,
Your car looks great, I think it is one of the best looking 951s I have seen yet. I think I have to lower my car now! The last component you need are the 968 mirrors. Then the look would be perfect. It is amazing how wheels can change the look of our cars. I hate my car with the stock phonedials, my first mod within 48 hrs of owning my car was to pull off the phone dials and install my 17" cup rims off my 993.. For looks and for the toyo ra1 tires. I do not have any pics of my car with the 17s but my last 951 had the cup wheels and they are a huge improvement over the phone dials. For long trips or for inclement weather I have a set of 964 design 90 wheels, they look horrible on a 911 but resemble turbo s rims, and look ok on a 951. |
I can't believe they're BOTH MINE!!!

Question on how you got your tail lights all one color. That looks soo clean I am interested in doing it. It would be much appreciated if could let me know.
TMA 951- I am also wondering what exactly did you use when you smoked out your corners. I have been thinking of that for a while and it just looks so good. Any reply would be great. Thanks |
Man, I love these threads, awesome cars!!!!!!!!!!!!

To answer the tail light question... A bunch of people have done it on this board. That is how I got the idea...but you go to Walmart and get the Testors Translucent Candy Apple Red model paint.... You tape off the area around the rear tailights....mask it off very good.....you don't have to remove the lights. Lightly sand the lights with a very fine sand paper.... clean the lenses off well...and spray... I sprayed all the lights to make it look more even, but I have heard you can just spray the white and yellow lenses and it will look the same. I sprayed 3 light coats on the tail lights. very simple. I also did the front side markers and the front orange lenses too.... Eventually I want ot o do the 968 rear end conversion, but that won't be anytime soon. I also want to get the carbon fiber GT racing front splitter.
Keep the pics coming... I love to see other 951's and how people modify and accessorize. I like to get ideas. Thx |

TMA 951- I am also wondering what exactly did you use when you smoked out your corners. I have been thinking of that for a while and it just looks so good. Any reply would be great. Thanks The tail lights are, as mentioned by many else here, just sprayed with thin black layers of translucent paint. Mine was sprayed from the inside of the lights. This isnt very hard to do, but is a bit hard to get all the light the same colour. Spray some more layers at the orange, etc and you`ll be fine!:) The same has been done on the front and side orange(blinkers or something) lights around the car ass you can see. I can trie to answer you about the "smoked out corners" if I did understand what you mean? hehe... stupid norwegians you know :p :roflmao: |

yeah, they are off a 968. I smoothed down the rear mounting flanges so they'd fit flush against the body. Considered using the 3M tape to mount, but choose to use sheet metal screws to make removal more easy . . . just in case a scrut has a problem with them. For a street car it'd be a little rough, but this is track only |

Hey Folks -- sold the '86 930, bought the '86 951... and diggin it!
CAG4 PS: I'll wash her when it stops raining in San Diego |
CAG4... very nice.... how did you like the 930 compared to the 951? Performance wise etc....Was the 930 much faster? Any mods on your 951?
|
The pedals are Rennline, and they have gauge rings on eBay. You can get 'em for about $30.
|
Hey There -- the 930 is, to me, an automotive icon and absolutely fantastic... but... it really was designed to be an "ultimate" supercar, with almost all of its performance at the top of the powerband -- virtually no boost below 4800 rpm, shift into third gear at 90mph, only 4 speeds, etc. Wonderful in its way, but subjectively not so useful in modern street driving.
So far, the 951 is strongest where the 930 was weakest -- boost available quite low in the rpm range, excellent acceleration from 30 to 90 mph... more than enough top end available... *wonderful* balance and handling -- practical people and stuff carrying capabilities ;-) Very real-world user friendly! It's all subjective in the sports car world -- there are things I've loved and hated about my old '59 356, my '73 914, my '86 930 and there certainly will be with the '86 951... but for me, right now, the 951 is a sweet, sweet ride! As for the car itself... the PO did a lot of work to it: upgraded to S2 suspension Koni yellows upgraded exhaust disconnected boost regulator all the belts, etc. As for me... In boxes at the house and office I've got: Autothority Stage II chipset All black interior from a 70K mile same year 951 968 split rear seats 968-style whip antenna Agla shift boot Momo Street Race seats (pair) Yokohama AVS ES100 225/50/16 & 245/45/16 And I'm still trying to figure out what to do about: Stereo (looking for clean, tight, neutral sound with harddrive or ipod-like device hookup) Cup Holders (I know, I'm a coffee addict, what can I say ;-) Pedal set (Leaning towards Rennline Race set) Steering wheel (Momo Prototipo, 930s, or other suede?) I'm *very* open to advice and suggestions on the above -- and glad to join this active community! cag4 |
Sounds like you have some nice plans.
For a stereo, Nakamichi is said to be the absolute best. I believe Alpine just introduced units with built-in iPod control, and they generally make fairly good stuff. For cup holders, there are ones that replace the console door, and hinged ones that attach via the trim screw to the right of the console, in front of the passenger seat. I would say the latter type are more convenient. Rennline pedals look good. I'm planning to get some. Momo has a suede steering wheel called the Mod 78. It's very much like the Monte Carlo, which is a very nice wheel. Sparco also makes a good suede wheel that is called the Ring, if I remember correctly. |
Cag4...thanks for the details.... I have always wanted a 94 911 3.6 turbo..black...18 inch speedlines........or a 930..... Eventually the 951 will be my track only car...and my 911 turbo will be my street car....but that is a long time away...LOL
Where can I get the Rennline pedals at? |
1 Attachment(s)
I think the '94 Turbo would be a great choice -- much more civilized than the '86 and go for triple black... Black, exterior, black interior and black wheels -- now that's *bad* At the risk of being off topic, here's what I gave up for the 951...
cag4 |
DROOL>>>>>>>>>
that is AWESOME....... I love those cars... Whose black one with the RUF wheels is that in the background..... Would those RUF wheels fit on a 951? I love those wheels.... I wish I was still in So Cal..... |
boosted951,
The rennline pedal sets are available through pelicanparts.com (a sponsor) or direct through rennline.com. Don't know if the RUF wheels will fit on the 951 -- I suspect not without work... the cars are at www.midwestperformancecars.com -- Tom's got some great (but not cheap) inventory, including a stunning 944 Turbo S right now. cag4 |
I think that Turbo S sold on ebay......It looked sweet too.....
|
cag4, i think you should add lowering the back of your 51 to your list too. Haha, jk. Car looks great and those are some great mods you got going.
|
A little late to the party but you can never have enough black turbos. The wheels will be swapped out to CCW's by the end of the month.

I bet he still sells em. Search under porsche interior bits. I had a local speedo shop put them in while they replaced my gauge lights with that kit from 9Xauto ( http://www.9xauto.com/ ). 2. Carbon fiber interior - EBAY as well, $120, same search should find em. 2. Pedals are Rennline ( http://www.rennline.com/indexframes.html ), The throttle pedal allowed me to get it exactly even with my brake ppedal under braking. I put a thin peice of wood under it attached to the factory pedal. I painted the wood black. Now I have PERFECT setup for blippin' the throttle. I think that was it. peace - CB |

Rick,
Love that first pic with the inside wheels just off the ground! Is that just from cresting a hill or did the curb contribute anything? Fun, fun! |
Bobby - the picture is just after the apex of turn 7 at Mid-Ohio; it's a left-hander in which the apex is essentially at the top of the hill. The inside tires are lifting just due to the weight shift to the right side & the speed carried through the corner - no curb action.
What the picture really proves is that someone is a far better photographer than I am a driver. Cheers, Rick |
Sweet car Rick.....both of them.....

What's your speed there? Sure is cornering flat, or are you drifting? I used to hang out at Mid Ohio in mu OSU days but never actually drove it, since I was a starving student. Oh, yeah, I've got a yellow 911 too: |
Brother-in-law new ride. He should get registered and join today I think as johnG.
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/john1_copy1.jpg |
Bobby - my best guess is that I'm somewhere around 65mph +/- 10 mph; to be honest, I've never looked down at my speedo. There is a slight bit of drift that takes you to track out over the crest but the car corners quite flat as a result of the suspension mods to the car (dampers, springs, sway bars, bushings, etc...).
The car is an absolute blast to drive - my winter projects are to install a data acquisition system and find ways to reduce weight to get closer to what I'm allowed in PCA E Stock racing rules. Cheers, Rick |
Isn't that the insanely low mileage 87 that was for sale on the boards? It's awesome either way. :)
|
yes, if you're referring to the stone grey; it just turned over 40k on it, 1231 miles home from CT to TN. I got to drive it the other day and it drives as new.

Clubracer,
If it helps at all, I just started driving my 951, again, after a year's hiatus. After blasting through 100 mph on boost a couple of times, all of the frustrations, time, and blood are worth it. My one regret is that I missed my last chance at a track event for this year. April is only 6 months away! :( -J |
no pics jon?

that looks awesome Mike......
|
Mike, those wheels are seriously cool. What are they? BBS? Straight fit or did they require some spacers/other work?
|
Sami,
The wheels are BBS RE’s. A 1-piece forged aluminum design made for road and race. I think it’s used by Ferrari on the F360. The front 18x8.5 weighs 19lbs, the rear 18x10” is 20lbs. Tires are 265/35 front and 285/30 rear Michelin Pilot Sport Cup. There is a magnesium version of this wheel for some cars, but its roughly 2.5 times more expensive, IIRC. They are lighter and stronger than a comparable size BBS 3-piece Magnesium race wheel which have Mg centers, but only spun aluminum rim halves. I bought these wheels through a race shop in Minnesota, Apex SPG www.apexspg.com The owner, Jim Bryant, club races a 944 S2 and really wanted these wheels for his car. Only problem was BBS only makes the 8.5x18” front wheel with the correct opening to fit a late model 911. The owner commissioned BBS to build a limited run of front wheels with a slightly larger opening to accommodate a 944 style wheel bearing dust cap(hence no front centercaps). All of the front wheels he had built have been sold at this time, but another lot may be done next year if there is demand. The 10x18” rear wheels are more available and interchangeable from 911 to 944’s. There is nowhere else to get the correct BBS RE front wheel for a 944 except through Apex SPG. Straight bolt on, no spacers. I really like them so far. |

Tony, buetiful car, I love the 68 wing. BTW, I am jealous of you living in the UK. :) That is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.
|
Thanks very much, looks better in the pics there are some stone chips around the front / and along the sills. 968 wing was standard on 90 models though i think body colour was an option.
I enjoy the climate (mostly) and scenery in the UK, but not much else anymore, petrol is far too expensive (tax), driving quickly even on empty roads (when you can find them) risks your licence and therefore livelyhood, and the government seems to churn out more and more stupid laws daily. I often think about leaving, but haven't found a practical alternative yet! Tony |
well good luck, again awesome car.

These are some awesome pictures guys. I can't wait to get my 944 turbo. I am looking for a black 86-89 944 turbo if anyone is selling. More upgrades the better.

Winslow would never tell you but that is BY FAR the nicest black 951 I have ever seen. It looks at least 10X better in person than in pics. Everything about it is really nice.

Do you road race the car with PCA or is it set up for track days. If you do run PCA road racing, what class are you running w/those mods? What kind of roll bar is that? |

Sure would look even better with a 3.1L turbo motor though.... I was driving the car the other day some heavy traffic (NJ sucks) everything was normal, 70 degrees, running 18lbs of boost and didn't get on the boost once in the 19 or 20 mile trip. I then stopped to meet a buddy of mine, talked to him for about 20 minutes started the car to leave....... huge cloud of white smoke. blown head gasket. So now I'm checking my $, I wonder what the new engine is going to be like? I'm going to pull the engine next week and try to establish a plan. I don't think a 3.1L is in the cards financialy. I think I'll post a thread to get suggestions. |
Winslow, there is a guy on the main board selling a 3L S2 motor, might see if you can pick it up for the right price.

I thought I would put up a picture of my ride. One more event at PIR this weekend and then nothing until next year. Maybe I can add some goodies to this one or the 930 during the winter.

My black 951.
|
Since I always seem to be working on it more than driving it I thought it would be appropriate to show the 951 in it's natural state. Once I get the bugs worked out of the 951 then I can go back to the SC. The 951 is actually in great shape with a perfect interior and a nice paint job.

Didn't know we were taking requests....LOL I'd like to see some Guards Red cars that have some wheels....968 spoilers...(adjustable too), cars with GT Splitters....pics of engine mods.. i.e. polished intercooler pipes...MAF etc... possibly some cars with a 968 rear end conversion. I do remember seeing a pic of Ian's car that was Red with a carbon fiber GT racing splitter and a hood scoop. It also had some gray cup wheels. That car looked awesome. Anyone have some pics of that car? Thanks

I realize mine isn't a 951, but.....(the first shot is before the 968 mirrors were installed) |
I have a few pics of Ian's old car. I'll post them, plus the new owner should be on here.
|
Dave's car has all the hood scoops. that car is incredible. Ian's I could only get one to come up.
|
tifosiman that car is sweet looking man. I like the contrast of the wheels on it.
|
My silver rose is orgiginal aside from the steering wheel and shifter knob. I will try to keep it that way, but the interior is really worn, and its not to easy to get hold on this special fabric. If anyone know of something, TELL ME!

White - impossible to hide dirt, poor at hiding scratches. Silver / grey - :D |

Ian.... that is one sweet ride. Love the hood scoop and the GT splitter. Got anymore pics of the splitter? I am really wanting one...and I have a Red car. I also love the way you removed the hood emblem...very subtle...but effective....
|
Thanks Ian, I still don't understand why you got rid of that car. Anyways I hope to see you soon man. Dave has a thread about his scoop I believe.
|
Richard,
There are a lot of reasons I had to let her go, debt was the biggest factor, and i'm trying to set myself up with the cash to buy the 965 in my avatar. I hope to have a 944 project running as well, but if I had to choose betwen a 951 and the 965 I'd have to go with the 911. Something about that car just draws me to it..... But it was a beautiful 951, and I know it will be well taken care of by the current owner to in a way that makes me happy. |
In Matt's during and after build spirit, :D

That 965 is a nice car. I wish you best of luck. I hope to see your car some time soon. Maybe a 44 gtg is due again. Maybe we could drumb up some interest. If you are remotely interested let me know when a good time would be for you. Thanks man.

Need an opinion guys... I like the look of dark grey wheels vs the light silver wheels. I have the 17 inch turbo twist wheels. I have never seen them in a two tone color like I have the turbo cup wheels. What do you guys think about these wheels. I know it looks sloppy, but you get the point. I do personally prefer the two tone look... silver lip...dark inside..... Thanks
PS...can someone photoshop the wheels grey a little better so I can get a better idea of what it will truely look like. TIA |
I like the lighter color wheels myself.
Another shot of the low mileage stone grey in front of his house..this car is so tight it's like stepping back in time almost. http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/johnhome.jpg |

John, is that your car in the middle picture with the black wheels?

Yes, those are my new rain wheels.
|
John,
Are those CCW's in the 1st pic? If so what tire size were you running? I also have CCW's and am debating the best size tire for the front...I'd have tires by now if the clutch job on the 83 didn't set me back so far. Steve |
Steve, yes they are CCW's. I run 245/275 hoosiers, on 9, and 10's. Anything bigger won't gain any more traction, as I already don't get a full contact patch. At some point I'm going to try adding a 1/2 inch to the outside wheel halfs and increase to 9.5, and 10.5 .
|
I take it you bought them from the guy on EBAY?

Matt, yep. Were you bidding on them too? I'm still trying to figure out what type of wheels they are. I started a tread in the 944/951 section.
2Tight, I really don't know if it will clear the OEM dia. springs. I run 2.5" dia. springs, and have no problem. The Hoosiers have a lip around the tires to protect the wheels. If you’re using street tires a 245/255/265 probably won’t make much of a difference. Curb protection is easy, just park further away. :) |
John, no I wasnt but I saw them and figured someone here would buy them.

Is there diffrent body work for the 951's after certain years? For some reason, the flares dont look as prominent, if at all, on some of thsee cars compared to others. Or, is it just angles?

This is at Daytona Beach after the Rolex last year. Wheels are now black.
|
These are some awesome pictures guys. I really want a black car, but after seeing those red ones I may change my mind.
boosted951 - that is one of the best looking red cars that I have seen on the front page. Looks stock, but has very subtle enhancements. love those twist wheels and the red lights. I bet that thing is very fast. Keep up the great pictures guys. 951_VAB - that car looks awesome too. MORE PICS |
My 951 '88 220 "rouge mascarin metallisé" full stock. except the "turbo" logo which have been replaced on the rear left instead of rear right after painting.

Ok, I am due for some paint and body work in the near future and think I will take off the door/fender guards. The cars pictured here without them seem to have a cleaner or more classy look.
I take it cars without them have been painted? Or did the later models not have the guards? |
The body mouldings were an option for all years I believe (?). I took mine off with the repaint and like the look, but it didn't take long to get a little door ding where they would have protected it!
|
Me too!!
How much was your repaint? |
I just got a set of Phone dials this weekend. I should have tires and them on the car tomarow. Then some more pics. ;)
|
black944turbo... can't wait to see the pics.... would love to see pics of the engine too with the MAF. how do you like that lindsey racing maf? is ther a way to use the MAf with another program or chips? or do I need to use a piggyback system or the mafterburner or powerperfect?
|
I think you can run it with a set of custom chips. I love the maf kit. I think that it is by far the best investment I have made. The car spools so much faster now. Anyways, I can't wait to see how she looks on stock wheels. I want to go sleeper. :) I am keeping the Polished C2 Turbo wheels for when I feel like looking sharp. Anyways, PM me with any specific questions about the maf.
|
The engine looks a bit better now. I realy needed to do some polishing in these pics. But anyways here is the Maf kit.
|
That looks sweet.. Have you thought about polishing the intercooler pipes?
|
I've been toying with the idea of polishing the IC piping. Since the pic I have polished up the porsche and rerouted the vacum line for the BOV. I just got my phones on today, so I have to show how the car looks now. I am running polished centers. Let me know what you guys think of the polished centers. Sorry bout all the pics. I am realy excited about finally having these wheels. I love the look of C2s but the phones are cool to. The car drives better with them. :burnout:
|
In case anyone is interested I have been trying to find out the weight on Turbo Phone dials. I got mine weighed. 17.6 lbs front and 18.2 lbs rear.
|
I cannot get mine small enough, so here are some links to a nautic over cancan 951.

black944turbo - that is an awesome looking car. love the phone dials. are you interested in selling your black car. I have been looking for a black car. any idea on how much hp you are running?
Boosted951 - unless you are selling your red 951? I would love to buy yours too. I really want a 951. Please help me out guys. My budget is $10k. Should I buy a unmolested one and mod it myself or should I get a modded one already? Any advice? |
Well, first off, you probably shouldnt have announced how much you were willing to spend on a car here. Everyone who was gonna sell for under 10k now know how much you are going to pay and will all sell for 10k.
However, answering your question, I am curently looking for a modded one that runs well. Reason? Because it is already modded with things I would do and it saves me money. A modded car sell for the same, if only a little bit more, than a non. However of course, the car has been "molsted," running harder than normal and sloppy mods will hurt a car. It is really up to you. 10k, you may be able to find a high miled (100k+) in good working order. It is hard to find modded 951s because, they are highly saught after. However, there are a few everyonce in awhile that pop up and, if you get lucky, youll pick one up for yourself. |
Sorry man, ;) No amount of money would get me to sell my car. I love it, I appreciate the compliment though. As far as buying a modded or non modded car, it all depends on how well the car was cared for. Some modded cars have been cared for as well as non modded cars. I barely run my car under full boost, and then you have some unmodded cars that have been beaten on all of its life. Just thoroughly check it out. Good luck, thanks again for your compliment.

Here are a couple shots of my 951.

nice car 951_VAB - Is it possibly for sale? All the cars on ebay are crap. The only good cars that I have seen are on Rennlist.
|
No, sorry not for sale, about to go in for 1st ever major engine work...top end rebuild, seals, new turbo, etc. Dyno'd @ 290 but with 165k is showing her age. Pretty excited about the prospects of approaching 400hp.
As far as skirts, I've not been able to find Better Bodies website recently, but that's where they came from. Someone else suggested GT Racing had same or similar. Dan |
I'd love 400 hp at the wheels.... my goal is around 350 hp at the wheels....

Where are the pictures guys? I know there has to be more.

I like the brushed aluminum trim. I have new white gauge faces and bezel rings and I need to consider what is the best combo of these once I get the cluster out.
Dan |
951_VAB - is that metal trim just stuck on or a full replacement? And, that turbo on the passenger side, whered you get it? that interior is the cleanest yet.
|
Yes, it's the brushed aluminum stick-on kit available from several sources, a lot like the Carbon Fiber and Wood Trim packages. It's actually not a bad product, it sticks well, fits very well and has a top coat on the metal surface that protects and maintains shine.
The turbo insignia is off the late model 996 turbos and it only available in silver. It's a little thinner and slightly different script and I feel looks a bit more updated. |
yeah...that is a smooth looking interior... I am liking the brushed aluminum a lot more now...
|

I even doctored one up with dark center wheels....what do you guys think... I think I am going to refinish the centers of my wheels to give it the two tone look..... Your car looks incredible. I don't know what your talking about your car not being the cleanest. It is deffinetely up there. :)

I was going to post updated pics of my car taken with a much better dig cam then the one I posted and to show the BBS wheels now painted black, but it is telling me the file must be less than 170K?? What kind of quality will that be with only 170K???
951_VAB: Holy crap that is nice. How much is that brushed aluminum interior trim package? I will be up in southern MD for Thanksgiving. Taking wifes Pathfinder unfortuneatly :( |
170kb will still be pretty good quality.... Just go to paint or something and reduce the size just a little bit....it will significantly reduce the size of the file though.....
I would love to see the black wheels.... |
How do you post pictures? Can I post pictures without being a member. I am not a member yet. I will join once I get a 951. I do have some pictures of some cars that I like.

yes you can post pics without being a member...I think I stated that above...it is very easy....

that is an awesome looking engine bay.... did your dad cut out those vents for the intercooler himself...or did he have someone do it. if he did it himself...was it hard...did he have to repaint..?
|
Yeah, he does them.
His and the car in the middle a few pics up, Scott's '86 Arena Red car. And yes, you have to repaint. Somebody on here said they did their and didn't repaint but I don't see how exposed metal would not need to be refinished....? Both cars above have polished aluminum ducting too... I've seen it done two times, basically he lays wide masking tape covering the entire area. Next, depending on the width of the vent, he draws a center line horizontally across the front then uses that line to center a (in this case) two inch circle, draws them with a compass. There's one circle drawn at each end of the two vents. The he connects the tops of the circles with a pencil line and a straight edge. Next, right at where the point of the compass was when making the circular pencil marks at each end he taps a small center punch mark (x4). Next you use a 2 inch METAL holesaw and cut out the four circles. Carefully connect the circles following the straightedged pencil marking left on the tape that you drew earlier with the tool of your choice. He uses a super thin cutting wheel on an air motor. To finish, he cleans up the lines with a small fine flat file then removes the tape grid. Prime, block sand, seal, paint..... The ducting is another story.....<lol> |
Rob, that's awesome, is the coolant tank just sheeted with aluminium at the top or is that
an entire tank reproduced in aluminium....? |
Tanks
The whole tank is aluminum. Lindsey sells them. Visit their web site.

Theres a ghost cooming out of your car! 944s really DO have the devil in them!
Looks awsome but, i thought it usually came out like, fire color, not this purple. Or does it turn to that in a second? I dont know, howd you do it and props to ya. |
Boosted951
Thanks. Yeah, I practially do have the entire catalog in there! But it does look sweet. Can't wait until it's done and see what this thing can do :) |
I took those vids, Yes it comes out more blue than anything else. It was fun to catch the flames, we went out in my daily driver and chased JJ's dads car. Volvo 940s can not keep up. lol . Anyways it is quite ez to get that car to blow flames just heat up the exhaust good, get on it, and shift. "POP". Anyways I will let JJ explain, as he is better at this than I am.
|
Rolex...Where in northern Jersey do you live? When I was kid...20-25 years ago...I used to live in Berkeley Heights. Always been meaning to go back and visit.
|
ahhhh.... NJ.... Good times Good Times......
|
Looks awsome but, i thought it usually came out like, fire color, not this purple. Or does it turn to that in a second? I dont know, howd you do it and props to ya. Anyways, that happens with pretty much any turbo car running a no-cat exhaust :D It's easier to see the concept with an atmospheric blow-off valve, but even with a recirculated BOV (or Bypass Valve, or Diverter Valve, pick your acronym :) ) at higher boost it will do it. When the throttle shuts under boost, the BOV/BPV/etc opens to vent that pressurized air so that the shock waves in the pressurized air bouncing off the throttle plate don't make it back to the turbo and damage the blades. Since this air has been measured by the MAFS already, the computer is opening the injectors for all this air, and since that air doesn't make it to the engine, the mixture goes lean for a split second, and that extra fuel vapor in the exhaust combusts when it hits hot enough metal in the exhaust and makes the flame out the tailpipe. The stock BPV on the 951 redirects this air into the pipe between the turbo and the MAFS, so that the vented air circulates back through the turbo, preventing more air (in theory) from entering the MAFS to cause that rich condition (it doesn't prevent it completely but it reduces it significantly. The air circulating through the turbo also allows it to stay spooled a bit longer so that there is less lag between shifts). Sorry if that was a bit lengthy. It's a lot easier to open the hood and point at stuff :D It doesn't blow flames as much with normal driving, but if you're driving it hard (e.g. Tail of the Dragon, track event, etc) it will start to shoot flames out regularly once the exhaust gets nice and heated up... |
Cool. I thought for sure you needed to run catless to get falmes. guess i was right. And i was pretty sure it was the exhaust pipe getting hot enough,as right. But dont worry about it being long, read the whole thing twice. Awsome info, thanks. Thing is, im in cali and we must run a cat. Im sure you couldnt tell if someone wernt of course... Until flames start shootin out. Ill try runnin catless for awhile and see how it looks under normal driving. I dont mind it shootin under hard driving, ill probably be gettin tickets for that anyways, whats another?
thanks again Jsquared |
I am running catless and rich.....looks like a perfect recipe for flames...LOL I am going to have to try it out soon.....

Hey Nz glad to see you here I hope that you are staying out of trouble in the Ot forum and Yes they are reflectors.
|
I should change my name from addict to big mouth cant keep his mouth shut.
Well reflectors, I always wondered why you guys wanted the "euro" lights. |
eurolights... ---------> me want
|
Given they will be common here, does anyone want me to check local wreckers to see if they have any? Though the exchange rate will kill it I imagine... I think its around .7 at the moment.
|
Yes, Andrew if you can get some for me I would really appreciated. Please check the junk yards and let me know.
|
yeah...i'd like some too....please....

Yea lol that front splitter got broken on the track one day and the new one was painted like 6 shades too dark of the red color. So its getting resprayed as we speak. How many USD does a set usually go for? The problem is the very weak USD at the moment...
|
Have you actually seen that body kit or the car? It is just about the most hideous design ever put on a car. Like the wheels, however.

Its the rear hatch that gets me...
|
Yeah, hatch is ungodly. However, I hate boxed rockers and the faux Ferrari side slits are laughable.

comon, you know you like those rockers....but, im not sure of the rest....
|
Guys, He is proud of his new car, cut him some slack. It is probably realy nice.
|
I do like the rockers, hey if people can take the piss out of my red leather seats, I can poke fun at a rear hatch!
I would not mind the side vents if they were totally functional and it was for race purposes :D |
Porsche951redt - very nice example of a Strosek bodykit. There's still a few of them floating around in Europe but not many are in decent shape anymore. Although you can question taste (it wouldn't be my choice for a daily driver) - it's a typical icon of the late 80's. Mark my words - this will be retrocool again in a few years time.

Yup.

I have seen the lights go for about $ 250.00 - 299.00 a pair.

Porschhhh951, Are those C2 Turbos or just the 5-spokes? They look like the turbos from the spoke width, but you have the painted crests which I believe came on the standard C2s. OEM or replica, and how much did you pay for them, including the caps? I like them a lot, so I'm just trying to get an idea. -thx sorry to be nosey |
They are standard c2's. I got them from a local guy here with new potenza rubber 500 bucks out the door.
uhhhh it helps to know people. |
Thanks John the car looks awesome man.
|
|
How much does it cost to get these cars a diffrent color? From say, silver rose to white
|
Why? If you are looking at a special edition silver rose S car please skip on that car and not paint it. That is a realy rare car and ashame to ruin it by switching colors. BTW, Nick beutiful car. Sorry Kesepton I am not trying to be a jerk just realy gets me when people change a special car like that. Good luck on your search. :)

Oh, i dont own a 944 even, it was just what came to my head. I was just wondering if, i cant find the exact color i want, how much id have to expect to pay to get my car painted to the color id like. Thats all. (id never touch a silver rose honestly... Id probably leave it all stock)

looks pretty cool. :)

That looks really good. It really fills out the back end of the car.
|
Thanks...I'll take some better pics and post them....
I will also post before pics so people can really see the difference.... |
Thanks for the kind words richard. I owned that one for about 6 months back in 2000. It had 84K on it when I sold it. Last I heard it went to Michigan, then to Texas.

nick those wheels are beauitiful.
Boosted I love the rear tail lights and the mesh. Looks real good. I need to call up LeadFoot and see about doing my rears. Is that who did you rears or did you do them yourself? |
Thanks guys...I will post better pics soon.... Car is up on jackstands at the moment.....probably going to pull the engine to fix the rear mail and oil pan gasket.....also want to do the rod bearings....possibly a clutch job....
John.... the tail lights I did myself with the Testors Candy Apple Translucent paint.... really easy...took like 20 minutes.... |
Boosted did you just clean the surface with soap and water....and lay the paint on the inside?
Sorry for being nosey..I just would really like to do the same thing to my lights. I was thinking white....any suggestions on technique and paint would be great. |
John,
What I did was use the translucent paint on the outside. I lightly sanded and prepped(masked) the outside of the lights....then sprayed a couple of light coats of the red translucent paint. Let it dry and whammo...it was done. I also did the front corner lights and blinkers...which were originally orange. All my lights are either red or clear. I don't know if you can get a white translucent paint. I think all red would look great though. Or you can paint all red...then a tint color to make a little darker....I think that would look good too. |
Boosted - I think that black mesh looks great. Best looking rear end I have seen. Post more pics please. I especially like the mesh with the all red lights.

Hello!
It's the first message I post in Rennlist! Here is a picture about my old 944 Turbo '91. She's a friend's now! Addict ;) http://yorick.berger.free.fr/944/adpyb01.jpg |
I thought all 91 turbos were cabs? In any case nice ride and nice 964 as well
Welcome to rennlist. |

Welcome to rennlist. It was just 944 turbo Cabs who were only '91. The 964 in the picture is a '90 Carrera 4. Addict ;) |
I am confused then. So what year 951 was that in the pic?
|
No there are many 951 '91 that aren't cab's.

This car is a '91 production, VIN ZMN, one of the last 944 turbo 250 HP.
Here is an other pics. http://yorick.berger.free.fr/944/PICT2814b.jpg Addict ;) |
Just that you in the US didn't get 'em :p
It seems that in '91 Porsche cleaned out the shelves and therefore some '91 has options not found on earlier models. |
Nice car!
BTW do you have leather interior? If so, do you have stiches and real leather trim on the center consoll and on the doors? |

You can tell them apart by the late spoiler and the M030-spec D90 wheels -7.5" fronts and 9" rears, like the ones on this French car. |

|
Those Euro sidemarkers are beautiful! Arrgh! Another temptation! Well, I'll get the Euro style lights and go from there first. . .
Is the c/r higher for the Euro 951s as was the case with the Euro n/a cars versus the U.S. spec ones or were they the same powerplant? |
To my understanding the powerplants are exactly the same, the difference is the gear ratios, no cat, no o2 sensor.. seems like its faster then my 87U.S Turbo. I also noticed my brake lights light up different then my others. Took a little time to get used too. Interior bits seem a little more robust...

yeah...i am going to put in a new clutch as well....any suggestions?
|
Looks like you have a loiitle more power under the hood... maybe a cup setup would be enough and a lghter PP like te KEP unit seems to have a lot of success. The centreforce is another option... there are a few clutch threads here, be very weary of the Spec setup!

I'd love to see them/hear about it! It's an 87 951 Fiberglass Hood and Rear Bumper Lexan Windshield and Hatch Fikse FM10's - 17x8.5 and 17x10.5 Lindsey Racing Rear Wing GT Racing Front Splitter Fully stripped down - weighs around 2450 and could be significantly lighter still Engine - 2.6L sleeved engine / Pauter Rods / J&E Pistons / 3" stainless exhaust / Custom Milledge Cams and Turbo / Vitesse MAF Suspension - Bilstein Cups front and rear / Turbo Cup Front swaybar / Adjustable rear bar (can't remember the brand at the moment, been so long since the car was built) / Charley front control arms Brakes - Big Reds up front / Water Cooled Turbo S transmission with S2 Differential Makes around 395 rwhp at 19 PSI boost last time I had her on a dyno. She should hold together fine at up to around 22 PSI, but rather than risking a motor meltdown, I typically run it at around 17 PSI where it makes around 370 rwhp. She's got about everything done to a 951 that can be done short of a full fiberglass or carbonfiber body. Could go a little crazier with the engine, but as it stands right now, its perfectly reliable and fast as hell so why mess with a good thing. Last time I had her out she turned laps in the very low 1:30's at TMS at 15 PSI. Oh, and if anyone is interested, she's for sale if the price is right. With the Grand-Am Cup 996, its not fair to keep this car sitting in the garage. |

If the guy with the seriously attractive girlfriend is still following this thread here's a few bits of info for you. Firstly I know of a guy who owned an M3 and thought it was as quick as any Ferrari or Porsche untill he went for a spin in a 944 turbo which runs about 290rwhp he came back feeling sick and saying thats the fastest thing he's even been in!!
Well now that your definately buying a 944 here's a quick look at the colours. My first car was the white lux and my second is the black turbo! White definately makes the car look wider but black looks awsome under flurecent lighting at night (like when your in a petrol station :D ) Anyway happy hunting with your car and as for the other guys on the forum!! Damn am I jelous of your cars!! Those CCW wheels are so sexy! Ben |

Here is my 1989 951. I should have ripped out the little sagebrush in front of the car - it ruined the shot. I now have an AIR splitter to install (and Vitesse Stage 3 :jumper: ) I can't wait!

Ok I have a new favorite wheel. SoloRacer I have been jones'n for a set of those for a long time, either the genuine Turbo 3.6 or the Gemballa version...BUT...
KuHL 951 those wheels are incredible! Are they CCW? What's the color and is the surface satin or flat? I like it much better than straight black. I've always loved that design, how he manages to get the "dished" look and still have a modern wheel. I wonder what they would look like on an '86? I know CCW will make them in a custom backspace for just about any application. |

Awesome. Looks much better with the flora and fauna removed. I just noticed this picture still has the stock door handles. I installed a set of 968 handles last summer. I'm going to have to take some new pictures when I get everything finished (AIR splitter, Euro driving lights, clear signals, etc.) Thanks! |
Here's my latest. you all have great looking cars.

Wow. Beautiful car Wior. Those wheels are great! I've never seen them with polished lips before. Was that a custom job?
|
Thanks, I had them polished and then repainted...a little pricey but the end result was worth it.

Not as in original paint, but as in paint code original? Was it an original color option? |
wior - your car is hot as hell.
|
Dereck,
No this is not the original paint code, and no it was not an origianl color option. Not sure when this color code was first available, I saw it on a 2001 911 and had to have it. The original color was just a shade lighter. wior (work is over rated) |
