CAG4... very nice.... how did you like the 930 compared to the 951? Performance wise etc....Was the 930 much faster? Any mods on your 951?

Adam H 10-26-2004 08:37 PM

The pedals are Rennline, and they have gauge rings on eBay. You can get 'em for about $30.

Hey There -- the 930 is, to me, an automotive icon and absolutely fantastic... but... it really was designed to be an "ultimate" supercar, with almost all of its performance at the top of the powerband -- virtually no boost below 4800 rpm, shift into third gear at 90mph, only 4 speeds, etc. Wonderful in its way, but subjectively not so useful in modern street driving.

So far, the 951 is strongest where the 930 was weakest -- boost available quite low in the rpm range, excellent acceleration from 30 to 90 mph... more than enough top end available... *wonderful* balance and handling -- practical people and stuff carrying capabilities ;-) Very real-world user friendly!

It's all subjective in the sports car world -- there are things I've loved and hated about my old '59 356, my '73 914, my '86 930 and there certainly will be with the '86 951... but for me, right now, the 951 is a sweet, sweet ride!

As for the car itself... the PO did a lot of work to it:

upgraded to S2 suspension
Koni yellows
upgraded exhaust
disconnected boost regulator
all the belts, etc.

As for me... In boxes at the house and office I've got:

Autothority Stage II chipset
All black interior from a 70K mile same year 951
968 split rear seats
968-style whip antenna
Agla shift boot
Momo Street Race seats (pair)
Yokohama AVS ES100 225/50/16 & 245/45/16

And I'm still trying to figure out what to do about:

Stereo (looking for clean, tight, neutral sound with harddrive or ipod-like device hookup)
Cup Holders (I know, I'm a coffee addict, what can I say ;-)
Pedal set (Leaning towards Rennline Race set)
Steering wheel (Momo Prototipo, 930s, or other suede?)

I'm *very* open to advice and suggestions on the above -- and glad to join this active community!

Sounds like you have some nice plans.

For a stereo, Nakamichi is said to be the absolute best. I believe Alpine just introduced units with built-in iPod control, and they generally make fairly good stuff.

For cup holders, there are ones that replace the console door, and hinged ones that attach via the trim screw to the right of the console, in front of the passenger seat. I would say the latter type are more convenient.

Rennline pedals look good. I'm planning to get some.

Momo has a suede steering wheel called the Mod 78. It's very much like the Monte Carlo, which is a very nice wheel. Sparco also makes a good suede wheel that is called the Ring, if I remember correctly.

Cag4...thanks for the details.... I have always wanted a 94 911 3.6 turbo..black...18 inch speedlines........or a 930..... Eventually the 951 will be my track only car...and my 911 turbo will be my street car....but that is a long time away...LOL

Where can I get the Rennline pedals at?

I think the '94 Turbo would be a great choice -- much more civilized than the '86 and go for triple black... Black, exterior, black interior and black wheels -- now that's *bad* At the risk of being off topic, here's what I gave up for the 951...

DROOL>>>>>>>>>

that is AWESOME....... I love those cars... Whose black one with the RUF wheels is that in the background..... Would those RUF wheels fit on a 951? I love those wheels....

I wish I was still in So Cal.....

boosted951,

The rennline pedal sets are available through pelicanparts.com (a sponsor) or direct through rennline.com.

Don't know if the RUF wheels will fit on the 951 -- I suspect not without work... the cars are at www.midwestperformancecars.com -- Tom's got some great (but not cheap) inventory, including a stunning 944 Turbo S right now.

I think that Turbo S sold on ebay......It looked sweet too.....

cag4, i think you should add lowering the back of your 51 to your list too. Haha, jk. Car looks great and those are some great mods you got going.

A little late to the party but you can never have enough black turbos. The wheels will be swapped out to CCW's by the end of the month.
