Hi Guys,
What causes this ? When I was at the pump
station the reading was 1/4 thank full. I fill
it up to about half tank full. Upon firing up,
the gauge suddenly flickered & when to full
tank reading & it's staying there. Anyway
to remedy this problem?
Thanks

Probably a bad sender; I ordered one for my 944 n/a shortly after I bought it (my gauge was horribly inaccurate to the point of being wortheless). It ran me about $90 and took literally all of 10 minutes to install.

Hey J, you can try two things before replacing the sender.
1) Remove the rear carpet, you will find a fireproof cap, remove that and you will find the hoses/connections for the fuel sender. Unplug the connections and clean them, replug them and see what happens (this worked for me).
2) If you remove the dash cluster assembly, there are four Rugby (American Football) shapped resistors between the gauges on the rear, clean them out as well (worked for me on my NA).
