Mine read about 1psi out of the box. Still does when the car is off. It certainly makes you wonder...

BTY -- can you hear a whooshing sound when your autometer gauge spools up (e.g., to 14psi)? At first, I thought that I had a leak at the connection in the back, but I've redone it a couple of times now, and I'm pretty sure it's airtight. I don't have any other signs of a vacuum leak, but I've always wondered about the noise.

I remember someone here 'tested' the autometer boost gauge and it was dead on.......

Kinda strange...........

I've tested mine, it is dead on. I tested against the dyno's computer boost gauge.

maybe autometer's quality control went down the toilet recently or something? how long ago did you guys with the 'accurate' gauges get them?

I don't notice it on boost, but at idle, I notice the same thing. Thought I had a leak there, too, but I can't find one. On top of that, it indicates only about 10 inHg vacuum even after the car has warmed up, which is way less than what most of you seem to get. But, it idles absolutely rock solid, so a massive vacuum leak seems unlikely. I've been wanting to test it, just haven't had time recently.

I got mine a year and a half ago. It sits at 0 and seems to work fine.

I got mine in January of this year. 10inHg at idle is very low when the car is warm, but if it idles well and you're getting appropriate boost, it's probably fine. Mine reads about 18inHG at warm idle with new vaccuum hoses and perfect compression (as of 10 months / 5k miles ago).

okay i got another autometer gauge and this one reads at 2psi right out of the box. i've even hooked this up to see if it will settle at zero after it sees some vacuum but no-go so i've returned this one as well. so it seems that either autometer's quality control has gone down the toilet recently, or that i somehow got two defective gauges in a row.

so instead i've ordered the vdo gauge and that reads perfectly at zero right out of the box and works flawlessly (no vibrations).

also i've noticed some differences;

autometer gauge:
-lightbulb in back leaks light around the edges, which in turn provides light to the dial face
-funky coloring doesn't match the stock black/white/red porsche vdo dash gauges
-costs over $50

vdo gauge:
-lightbulb in back is routed via fiber-optics so that the actual numbers and lettering lights up (real backlighting)
-black/white/red display perfectly matches the stock porsche vdo dash gauges
-costs under $40

not to mention that two autometer gauges in a row arrived with defective readings while the very first vdo gauge arrived perfectly calibrated.

vdo wins hands-down.

edit: 18inmg at idle and 22inmg at cruising with no throttle (engine braking?)

I was waiting for a link

But 300F is way to much, any ranges? and other links for VDO gauges?

I tried searching but couldn't find any (except boost and now the oil temp gauge )

i got the vdo gauge from summit racing and they have a bunch of other vdo's, note that the VISION series are the ones with the fiber optic backlighting;
