Default Does the Stock 951 have a Rev-Limiter?

Does the stock 951 have a Rev limiter on it, and does the fuel cut off? I just was wondering. I have only had the car up to about 148mph, but will the car run over into redline area?? Does the car cut out?

Yes, it is rev limited in stock form at about 6800? or so. It interrupts the spark and holds the revs down that way. I've had min up to 165 indicated, but the speedos read a bit high, so it's probably more like 158 or so.

Rev limit is 6500 rpm's and it's both fuel and spark that is cut off. If it would be only spark it would still ignite because of compression.

LOL, that reminds me of when I decided to see what the kill switch on my bike did if I flipped it to off when I was riding. Turns out, nothing much happens when its off (spark cut), but turning it back on makes one hell of a bang from the exhaust. I won't be doing that again

So if you keep reving to the 'limit' does the rpm 'bounce' back and fourth there like those Jap cars do?

hosrom,
Yes but don't do it often it's not good for your car. Also you can get valve float at those rpms and that can damage your valves and camshaft.

The rev limit only cuts fuel. If it cut ignition your tach would mysteriously quit working when you hit redline. Fuel is reenabled after the rpms drop below the limit, so if you keep your foot in it you do get the bounce.

Now, is this bad for most/all cars (keeping your foot down and making the revs 'bounce') or does this apply to our cars?

At high rpm and under load its not a good thing to do for reasons mentioned above.

But is it really worse to "bounce" than to be at constant 6800 rpm..
None of the reasons mentioned above is related to the bouncing itself rather than high rpm.

It really depends on the engine load. If set to low rpms and no load, the revlimit bounce is nice and gentle. This is what you hear with the launch control setups on the ricers.

With the revlimit at high rpms and under heavy load, you will be switching between full rich and full lean very quickly, full power/no power. Not good for the rod bearings, valve train or drive train.
