The car is really dirty in these pictures but you can see the other dents and the status of the repair. From comparing it to the other cars sold recently I think it's a great deal. It's not a car you buy and then have to put $2k into right away, I think.

A local person who was interested has stopped responding, so I guess he is out. I'll try to get some more work done and pictures taken in the next few days. The engine bay looks stock, not much to see there.

Well I got some more work done on the LF quarter, and put a color coat on it (not a match but glossy so I can see the flaws.) It needs a bit more sanding and spot putty but it's not bad, and I'm thinking of fixing the ding in the front valance and having the front repainted. Actualy I'm thinking I could put $1000 into the body/paint and sell the car in the spring for $7200 or more. It's a pretty nice car and it's looking like no one wants to buy it as-is, so I either drop the price or do some repairs. I suppose it's a mistake to lose money because of some fixable paint issues.

The downsides of putting money into the car and selling in the spring are:

Opportunity costs on the money
Storage space (outdoor is easy, indoor not so much)
Risk of a tree falling on the car or something
Having to deal with a body shop (I have never had a good experience at one.)

All that is probably worth $1000 but not much less. So that answers the question as to how much to discount the car before the snow flies.

Thanks for the interest in the car, but I'm going to fix it up and sell it for some more money. I'd hoped to be able to get a good price for it without having to put more time/money into it, but that just did not work out. I think I actually scared people away by asking too little for the car. I did not want to ask $6250 and go down to $5400, I figured I'd ask for a reasonable amount straight off. However I think people assume a 951 for $5500 has to be junk. Oh well.

Look for it in the spring looking better for $7200

Thanks! I think it's just too hard to find a buyer for a car with some cosmetic issues. I should have had those fixed last month, I think I could have sold it by now.

I ordered the paint for it and plan to spend tomorrow redoing the front valance, finishing up the LF repair and refinishing the wheels, weather permitting. The car is still available but the price is going up to reflect the work going into it. I do not expect to place another ad for it until things start warming up around here (March) but naturally I'd be happy to sell it sooner. I have an ad in my local paper through Sunday, so I suppose I will honor my advertised price through the weekend. I have one local interested person who might reappear, so if he shows up and I have all this work done I'd let him have the car for the ad price of $5500 but I do not know if I'd sell it that cheap to anyone else (once the work is complete.) I'd have to see how good it turns out but I'm hoping with some effort the car will fetch North of $7000 in the spring.
