I'm a bit confused I have an 88TS my number is 1423 ??
Why I am confused is I bought mine in early May of 88
I believe the car was made in Dec of 87 or Jan of 88 .... It seems strange I would have such a
high number??? ...WTFK's

Ed

According to the 944 FAQ, there were 4103 1989 951s produced worldwide. Of the worldwide distribution, it goes like this: RoW--1333, Canada--1385, and USA--1385.

Eyal, there were 3210 Turbos imported to the USA in 1987.

Crazy Eddie, maybe the serial numbers for the Turbo S of 1988 were shared with the serials for the standard 1988 Turbo. 4097 Turbos (S and standard) were produced worldwide in 1988, of which, 1874 came to America. Interesting...

The 88TS was non-sequential, because "S" was an option -- not standard. Comparing your car with other cars in Turbo S Registry, I'd say your car was an early 88 manufacture date.

My 88TS is #1097 -- does anyone know of a lower VIN #? The PO never saw a lower one -- I'm hoping mine is the first US 88TS

Although I know this is a nebulous statement, I'll say it anyway: not very many. I think it is so cool that you are the original owner! Tell me more. How many miles? Completely stock? Ever tracked? Ever wrecked? Just curious.

I am the original owner of my '89. I bought the last one on the dealer's lot (Annis Porsche-Audi of Natick, MA) in December of '89. Sales of the 944 series, particularly the Turbo's, had gone into a slide back then, the aftermath of stock market crash of '87. The dealers couldn't even give away the Turbo's and they just sat on the dealer lots. I got mine heavily discounted--nearly 25% off MSRP. It was a deal I couldn't resist.

Default Something Doesn't Add Up!

Keeping to the topic of 1989 951s for a moment , something is not adding up here. Supposedly 4103 made worldwide, with 1385 to the US. How come no one has a serial number higher than 1330? Jake bought one of the later 1989s imported and has a serial number of 1138. My US model is 1066, similar to the range of numbers everyone else posted.

Did they separate out the US import 1989 951s by serial number, or was it really 1385 built worldwide? Anyone have a serial number higher than 1385?

How many miles? ~ 47K
Completely stock? For the most part but that is about to change (Viteese II)
Ever tracked? Mildly ... But I got good, real fast. I tracked it at The Bridge many times, the Glen, Summit Point, Pocono and Laguna.
Then I got married, ( need I say more )
Ever wrecked? Never, although I did have a close encounter with a tire wall at Summit Pt

When I bought my car the maket just really started to tank for Porsche ....
I only got mine for only 10% off Sticker ...
But the S in 88 came with every option as opposed to the 89's in which some did and some didn't ... But for 38k I probably could have done without some of those options.

Jake, I'll bet that my 1989 Turbo was deeply discounted, as well. Her birthday is 1/31/1989, but she didn't sell til 11/28/1989. Poor thing! If only I would have been of driving age and had the money, I could have rescued her from that dealer lot much earlier. Since she must have felt unwanted for that long period of time, I'll have to give her some extra pampering today. I think a wax job is in order. It wasn't her fault that the DM totally owned the USD at that time!

Waterguy, I agree with you: those numbers just don't add up. Here is the link from which I obtained the information. Analyze it and let me know what you think. http://www.connact.com/~kgross/FAQ/944faq03.html

Crazy Eddie, wow, 47K miles! Although I hate to see your Turbo S leave her stock form behind, I have to say that you will be thrilled with the Vitesse Stage II! I have the kit in my 1986 951, and wow, does it ever deliver! Good luck with your upgrade!
