Just out of curiousity, I know when you engage the parking brake, if it overheats, but what else?

Low oil pressure, low engine oil, low brake fluid. I think the voltage regulator can cause the light to come on dimly.

airbag fault. if the controller goes bad, or if one of the sensors doesn't work, i think the ! light goes on.

George, how low does the fuel have to get? I've gotten down to only a half gallon or so...

Justin: Yes, on my 88 NA, EX light and ! light came on. Looked under the car and the O2 wire was cut (for some mysterious reason).

944Ecology: My fuel light came on several time, but the ! light never came on when that happened.
