Hey all,
I have a problem with my 87 951... It tends to idle very high some times. Usually when i first start it in the morning or the first time of the day there is no problem, but as soon as i shut the car down, and start it up again it will idle just about 2000RPM's..It it stinks like its burning gallons of fuel.....I kinda remember when i first installed my autoauthority stage 2 chip it idled a little higher..but not to sure if thats the problem... Any others have this problem?
Another problem if anyone can answer does anyone know the stock numbers of the DME and the KLR chip? when i first took them out i didnt mark them(which i should of)? I just wanta see if it'll run better without the chip.......I NEED HELP!! I'm looking for a new car and i cant find a thing.. but help me bring my Porsche back to the way i remember it....

Your TPS (throttle position sensor), black cube on the intake manifold by the throttle body, is probably bad, or has some bad contacts.
Try unplugging it, cleaning the contacts, and put it back in.

The same idling problem just happened to my 951, and it was the TPS. The Clark's Garage has a detailed instruction on how to change the TPS:
http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/fuel-06.htm
I am no mechanic at all, and I just changed the TPS myself. The procedure is relatively easy, it is a 1-2 hours job max. I also used the chance to clean the throttle unit.
Since the TPS is relatively inexpensive (<$100), you might be better off just replace the old one with a new one. It's because sometimes even the TPS clicks when you take it out and inspect it, it might still get stuck while it is back in the car and the temp is warm.
Best luck,

Took me 15 mins to replace and adjust the TPS, i hope your long hours of work were mostly on cleaning
