$$$$ to repaint ?
I'm the 2nd owner of my '89 Turbo S. From 10 ft., it's great - up close, well let's say it looks like the previous owner went crazy with a buffer. Anyway, I recently went to a restoration shop and was informed to have the car repainted, with some minor body restoration (door dings, nose chips, etc.) to expect a $4K-$5K bill. The garage has plenty of P-car experience (as well as other exotics). Does this amount seem unreasonable?

Did you consult a very good detailer? maybe it can be buffed out in thr right hands... If Its a "proper" repaint i can see it costing that high its ($$$) all in the detail put into the paint job

Talked to a couple local detailers and they both sent me to the restoration garage.....
Sounds like the $$ is realistic - guess I'll have to decide to paint or performance enhance.

If you want to save some money and want a great paint job I've done this before and it works great.
Go to automotive paint supply stores and ask around for someone who will shoot paint on the side.
You do most of the prep which involves which involves wet sanding with 600 wet or dry to knock the sheen off. any small dent's negotiate with the guy to have him do it.
Paint will cost about $500-$600 for top quality urethane with clear coat.
Anywhere from $500 to $1200 to shoot the car.
$200 to $300 to have it color sanded and the paint polished.
I've also just rented a booth and shot my own car before, it's about $50 for 3 hours usually.
The real trick isn't in painting the car, provided everything is straight it's in having someone who really knows what they are doing sanding out the orange peel and polishing the paint out.

Damn, my porsche specialist want $2000 for a paint job, but he does everything 'by the book'.
Takes his time for preperations, great paint finish.
that is too high if you ask me, $500~$600 sound smore reasonable.

wow, thats Maaco? im impressed- I had maaco paint my 968 spoiler, door handles, and mirrors... but was afraid to have them do a total repaint...
I am considering having a shop paint my car polar silver though, (flamingo has got to go), so I have started to do reasearch myself as to costs and shops

4-5K is about right for a good paint job, it will not be show qualitity. 1k will get you a good paint job for a daily driver that you will not freak out if you geta rock chip. I had a quote for just painting the front end of my car and they wanted 2200 so I am in the process of doing it my self. So far I have done most prep and primed the front. I am learning as I go so I have some spots that I will redo. Cost so far is about $100 but I already have a compressor and a binks paint gun. I figure that when I get done with the front I will have about $300 in everything.

Actually wouldn't mind someone welding on some GT style fender flares, fill it then paint. At least on the rear.

Just paid $5500 for different color paint job. Looking back I can tell you that I have thought about the other mods that could have gotten me, but the paint had to go. It was horrible the PO must have buffed it 30 times a week to do such damage.

$5,500 for a repaint? that is way too much over here.
More like $3000 would get you a great repaint job.
For that same amount, you can rebuild a 944 NA engine here too

It depends on how detailed you want them to get and how much masking/removal/dent removal needs to be done.
I stripped mine down to bare metal, and (except for the engine bay) paid about $4000cdn for a FULL repaint. (a little over $3000 usd i think)
