Few weeks ago I noticed a relay clicking back and forth continusley. It is coming from the glove box area. I have also noticed when driving I have allot of real hot air coming from the vents and had to switch it to the defrost mode to stop from cooking me. Any Ideas??

I have been hearing the exact same thing, at first I thought it was just a rattle but am now convinced that it is a relay just by the sound. It seems to eminate from the passenger side footwell, right where the DME and KLR reside. I have been planning to remove the board and just look around in there for anything obvious. The car runs fine and I have noticed no electrical gremlins. Anyone else ever have this problem?

There is a temp sensor in the passenger side area. If you remove the plastic trim for the clock, lighter etc. the grill should have a hose attached to it.

Follow the hose, it would end up at the temp sensor.

However, that is the only a/c sensor/switch in that area, so it may not be the problem......

Make sure the nut that mounts the back of the glovebox isn't loose.
Mine was, the washer was vibrating like crazy, sounded like a clicking relay too.

Is this noise when stationary or when driving?
The reason I ask this is I had the same annoying relay clicking but only when stationary.
I traced it to the relay for the courtesay lights. It usually happens when your interior lights are set to come on when you open the car doors. I sitched my interior lamp to permenantly off and the noise went!!!

I have the same problem with the clicking on and off, my vents blow hot air as well.

I do not think that it has anything to do with the glove box screws/bolts/washers. I an literally running the car without a SINGLE bolt/screw suppoorting the glove box and i am not getting th noise; However, it's worth to check.

Clicking sound is not from any lose nut's/bolts I take off the cover start the car in the garage and with out moving or touching anything I hear a relay clicking back and forth. I must have something to do with the car blowing real hot air. I am going to explore more tomorrow. But has anybody else had this happen?

I have the same problem. The noise is not from a relay, but is from a solenoid controlled valve. which controls the heater control valve. I have replaced all three of the temp sensors, and cleaned all of the connections as advised in the archives. It still clicked. At the connector in back of the heater control unit I replaced each of the NTC connections with resistors that had a value similar to the NTC at room temperature. It still clicked, I am sure at this point that the problem is in heater control unit.

Has anybody every tried to fix one, or know what the problem is? It is a mess of circuit boards soldered together.

Hosrom_951, it is mounted in the passenger footwell. Remove the glove box housing and look to your left in the opening. It has two vacuum lines and a single electrical connector. From memory ( I am at work) there are two of these solenoid controlled valves next to each other, I am not sure which one it is.

Ok i found them and here is what i have done:

I followed the vacuum diagram (from PET cd) for the firewall vacuum lines. The one to the passenger side is for the a/c vacuum while the one on the driver's side is for the heater valve correct?

Under boost conditions, i get a smell coming out of the exhaust system.

I switched those two vacuum lines around, under boost i get NO smells whatsoever, but after boost the a/c is not cooling effectively.

The heater valve is not functioning on either port i used (but it is working because i took off the vacuum line to it and sucked the line and the valve moved).

So, there is a problem with the solonoid units that control the vacuum for the climat control system?

The heater is not working at all, so i am leaning towards that, but it looks like such a tight space to remove those solonoid units, does anything (except the glove box) needs to be removed?

I am having a problem like this with my '88 944S...the heater clip is still intact...I heard the same clicking noise from down in the passenger footwell...have you solved this yet?
