I'm trying to consider all my options w/my 951. The car has a rebuilt engine w/new everything waiting to go in. My Spec Miata season has been a bit rough and the funds aren't there to get this motor in. I've been thinking about parting it out and this is kind of a ball park of what I think I can get. What's some of this other stuff worth and what other items on the car would bring over $100. And then, what's a rolling chassis worth or I am better off parting the doors, fenders, etc... Here's what I have so far, am I far off and again what am I missing. This is just a thought and like I said I'm just trying to look at all options.

I think $7,000 is doable.

I'd be interested in some stuff. What condition are the Recaro seats in, what rubber is on the wheels, which vented nose panel is it, and what size is the Tial?

I am not sure if you would be better selling the rolling chasis or parting it out. It would take the right buyer to sell the chasis to. You may want to attempt that for a month or so (I dont know how soon you need the cash) if that doesnt work, you can usually sell the front fenders and valence pretty easy, and that would definetly put you over the 7K mark. I recently sold a front valence for $300 I think so that and about $150 per fender and you would be at like 7,200. I think if you found the right buyer you could probably sell the rolling chassis for maybe 1k, but thats a guess. Good luck, and let me know about that tial if you part it out......

I think $100 for an airbag wheel is high, i think $100 for a dash in top shape is low, and $100 for a dash in bad shape is $100 too high. All in all, i think you could get the money, but WHAT A HASSLE!

Parting out a car for an everyday person is a pain in the *** and you won't sell all that stuff pronto, it will be dribbling in over time.

I like the Spec Miatas, but on the straights they just get mangled on our track. Take out a second mortgage and finish the project!!!

Hey Dave, for 10k I can get a real nice car. Even if I finish the engine, then I have to tend to the paint. The body is a 7 at best. Sold the rods.

Eclou - a 65 spec Miata field at Road America, a 10 hour Enduro and Gingerman, the 25 hour race at Thunderhill and a few crazy sprint races might change your mind. ;-)

I don't want to do this, but I haven't driven this car more than 3 weeks since I bought it last January. I don't have the time or big desire to get this done.

So I can keep waiting until the time is right and just let this car sit.
Pay someone $2k to install the engine, sell it for $8k or so
sell it as is for $4k
Part it out for about $7k - Granted this will take some time and effort as well. Like I said, just exploring options right now. Thanks for the input thus far...

Parting is alot of work, it's very time consuming. Between answering 100's of email, providing pictures, prices descriptions, and wrenching like a madman, it will eat up your time.

Guesses on man hours to completely disassemble a car, market, answer emails, shipping, .....ect?? 150 hours??? So lets say you can sell it outright for $4000, or part it and get $7000, you will be working for what $15 per hour?

If you can use your time more profitable doing other things, I'd say sell it out right or fix it and drive it!
But if you have plenty of time, then go for it, you can easily get around $7k, but it will take a few months to do it.

Sit on it till you have the money. The car will mechanically sound. Do the paint over the winter or leave it and run some DE's..

Your beyond the turning point of losing money. Might as well drive it..

Jason makes a good point.Do you really need the money that bad?in the time it takes to sell all these parts you wont have that much more money for your Miata Season.You could put the car on hold and just park it till your have the money or deiced to sell.Either way Do you have a pic of your wheels I would like a new set of 17's.

No, Ed's price is less than 25% of that but he simply hasn't had the time. It's not about time - more like frustation. I still love these cars, even though I sell the new P-cars for a living. As I type this I have a GT3 4' in front of me. But I still love the 951, I just start adding up all I've spent on this car and I think about what how much more it needs to be nice and I start wondering about cutting my losses now and picking something up later. I know many of us have been here before and seeing all these cars for sale on the boards the past few weeks has had me thinking of moving on. Maybe I'm just having a weak moment...

I think your pricing is a bit wishful after our kcws group parted a 951 out. Unless the clutch hasnt been driven on, 500 is probably steep. 100 for a stock flywheel also steep. Unless the stock seats are in horrible shape, you shoot low on the 100, ours were in pretty decent shape (not perfect) and they went for around 400 i think. Intake for 200 is a bit high, maybe 150. Some things high, some things low, it will probably all balance out. Has the car been wrecked? Seems a shame to part it, why not slap it back together and sell as a chunk? Like it was said before, consider roughly 150 hours minimum to get rid of it, just depends on how much time you have on your hands. Lots of hassel going to the post office every day to ship things, find boxes, packing material, etc. It is a tough decision i am sure.

P.S. some of you guys are pretty serious vultures. I wouldn't be surprised to find a couple of you at my house with tools and cash in hand when I get home!
