Hmm, adapter charge ports are all the rage here. You can buy a "retrofit kit" for like 45 dollars with two cans of R134, charge ports, etc. JUNK.

Propane fridges are not made any longer (to the best of my knowledge) but propane is used in industrial HVAC. In Mexico it is used in auto AC systems regularly (great refrigerant). You will see propane and other flammable refrigerants used in industrial HVAC pretty regularly.

I doubt an EPA inspector in the US cares. I never once had my machines checked for leaks by them, no one ever checked the registry numbers on them, no one ever checked the chemical composition of my cylinders, etc. They have other things to worry about.

As to the next post, the other HC derivatives are flammable (12A, Duracool, etc) as classed by the EPA and are, therefore, not approved for use in automotive AC systems in the US. I would be PISSED if someone didnt tell me they were running some strange refrigerant and I contaminated a 30 lb cylinder of R12.

Yeah it would not be very amusing at all !
I am running R49 in my system at the moment and it seems to be holding nicely. I used up my R12 supply after my compressor bearings decided enough was enough and craked the compressor housing. Did not have enough for a total recharge so gave my cylinder away to a mate with a Rolls Royce who was struggling to find a top up.

Default I have Freeze 12 available

In case anyone needs it, I have about 6-7 cans of Johnson Freeze 12 available. Previous owner of my car purged the R12 and was using Freeze 12 so I bought a bunch to charge the system periodically (had a slow leak.) But I finally put in a new compressor & assorted parts to convert to R134 so I don't need it anymore.

If you want to find out more about Freeze 12, just type in the the name in Google and you'll find plenty of info. Email me off the list if you are interested. Email address is M5guy@aol.com

I was amazed to see Freeze-12 and all the additives at Pep Boys last weekend. I always thought it was mail order only. I have it in one car now and have had no problems all summer so far.

R-12 is truly the only way to go for a stock 944 or 951 system.

I have done air conditioning jobs for years and know the ins and outs of Porsche A.C. systems. 134 will not work well in a 944 without addition of a parallel flow condensor which no one is offering. Griffiths is a joke. He will sell anything and claim it will work. That factory setup really works well with R-12. Ebay really is a great option. I buy R-12 for about $10 per pound and won't do a conversion if the customer wants comfort. Consider the cost of all the work needed to rebuild an a.c. system. No consider the cost of R12. Pretty small isn't it?

Hydrocarbons did almost burn down a Porsche 928 at the 928 owners clubs. Check the rennlist posts for envirotech or envirocare and louis ott. I don't recommend flamable a.c. products.

Fix it right and on the first try and stick with r-12.

Good luck!
