I've heard a KKK 26/6 (aka stock non-S turbo) can be easily and cheaply remanufactured into a 26/8 or even a K27 derivative. Has anyone done this? Were the results good?
If someone were to do this, which "flavor" would be best for a mildly tuned 2.5 motor?
Thx

No matter which one you go for (27/6 or 26/8) you need some chips to handle an dcontrol the new turbo.
I have not tried this yet, but was told that places such as Majestic Turbo's can do that (i even e-mailed them and they said they can upgrade/reduild the turbocharger).

That was fast...
Actually it was your post about Majestic in Waco (I'm in Dallas, so they're almost local) that got me thinking. I'm just starting a mild upgrade project - WG, chips, boost controller, exhaust... Got me thinking - while I'm in there, a Turbo upgrade - if not too expensive might not be a bad idea...

Mitch, this is just a "wild side" idea that a racer who I respect told me. A tuner from the AZ region, used to a take a Mercedes 240 or 300D compressor, machine and polish it to go into a 26/6. The boost was almost instant. Aftermarket chips, AFPR, and upgrade to 52/55 injectors. If your experimenting...maybe I can get you more detail or that phone number. BTW, stunning avatar!

Of the KXX/X variants, I think the 27/6 is the most useful for stock displacement motors. However, to build a 26/6 to 27/6 costs around $800, a price level where you can easily get a T04 hybrid and even seriously look into the 60-1 HiFi. Unless you have class restrictions to deal with, it's not cost-effective.
