Default TO4E with 50 trim on 2.5l?

Hi Everybody,

Is anybody here running one of these on a 2.5l with a stage 3 turbine wheel in a #8 housing? If so, what's the boostcurve and power output like?

Thanks,
Rob

Rob - most of us are running the .60 trim (.57 that is). Not sure if there is anyone running the .50 or not.

I've used this turbo on numerous turbo projects with the .48 a/r turbine housing. On a 1.8L Honda motor (b18b), it gets a full 15psi of boost at 3300rpm. On a 2.5L 951 motor, I'd expect it to make 15psi of boost at 2800rpm or so with a #6 housing.

IMO, it's a great choice for a street 951.

A T04E 50trim with a stage 3 turbine in a #8 housing is a great turbo for our cars. Even better would be a super50 trim.
Check out these different map to see the difference between 50 & super50 at the same flow.
First the 50trim

hope this helps you

Like Rage said ,
it can flow even at low rpm.
Check this map at 20psi starting at 2800rpm.
If the compressor can flow that much a low rpm and still have alot room on the top end. Its a great turbo choice.

Yea, the super50 is nice. AFAIK, the "super" series are Turbonetics specific, and only available through Turbonetics' line of T04E turbos.

I've recently moved up to a different turbo...60-1 for my 2.8 liter.

If interested my To4E is actually for sale now...

Thanks for the replies and maps.

I currently have a TO4E-46 with a stage 3 turbine wheel in a #6 hotside. When I went to this turbo, I was living at a 7200' elevation and was very concerned with quick spooling. I also ended up going to an S2 trans to help out with the drivability.

Since then, I've moved to sea level and the turbo started leaking out the rear seal. I have sent the turbo back to Majestic to have it rebuild and I've decided to jump up to a #8 hotside, but wasn't sure if I should also spend the bucks to jump up to a 50 compressor wheel.

Edman, Thanks for the compressor maps. I also have a version of turbocalc, but it doesn't have any of the super series maps in it. For the VE's you've used, are those estimations or do they come from dyno plot data?

sl951, what boost level was your run at?

Thanks again everybody!

Rob, the VE in my charts is estimated. But i think its around those #.

sL951, that the first dyno sheet i have seen of a t04e 50trim with a #6.
And that look really good for a street 951.
300ft-lb at 3000rpm wow and pretty flat up to 5500.
And over 300hp at 6000 plus the hp doesn't drop like a rock.

That may be the best quick spool 300rwhp turbo setup for our cars.

When I first got my turbo with the #6 hotside machined out for a stage 3 turbine wheel, I compared it to both a factory #8 and #6 housing.

What I noticed was that the #6 and #8 housings appear to have the same A/R ratio (Cross sectional area / Radius = constant for those those that don't know) with the only difference being the exducer diameter hole for the #8 turbine wheel and the corresponding radial slot where the cross sectional area and exducer hole meet.

My #6 housing that had been machined to fit the stage 3 wheel (which is very close in size to the #8 wheel) was almost identical now to the factory #8 housing. Personally I don't think there a big difference between a machined #6 housing and a factory #8, but decided to order a turbonetics replica #8 to compare against the previous housings I've seen and the machined #6 that I still have.

Nice dyno chart. What was used for tuning? How were the AF ratios? Surprised to see the torque drop off so early, curious if it was a tuning issue, or if the #6 is that restrictive. Was expecting to see the torque curve hold all the way to around 5500rpm before dropping off (and not as steep either).
