Question power to manual steering question

Hey guys for now I cut the power steering belt and am running that way. Is their any risk of damaging anything like this? Also since this is an 86 i understand that all I will need for a manual conversion is the rack and the shaft, Is this correct? Also guys what kind of savings do you think I'll get from not replacing the power steering rack and going to manual? Thanks in advance

I think the tie rods are different too...

No you shouldnt damage anything as long as you keep the resevoir tank topped up with fluid. Several people here have run their cars for long periods of time like that. Mines going on a few months and nothing has cropped up.

Beware that the power rack without the belt will be harder to handle than a normal manual rack. Parallel parking is a great workout now.

Hey Guys, If you have a steering rack leak and you remove the belt and run it that way, will the steering rack still leak?

No, because there is no pressure (since the pump is not working.)

How much harder? I'm running a rack w/o belt right now as a trial period before doing the manual swap -- and man, what a workout!

manual rack is a lot easier, i got into a 944 with a manual rack and thought it had powersteering after running mine without belt, pump or any fluid.... However i am looking for a manual rack, if anyone has one that they want to sell or know of a place that will sell one let me know.
