Paint thinner or any other powerful thing to remove the adhesive/glue could destroy your paint. 3M sells a spray glue release agent. Spray it on (liberally) and let it sit then work your butt off. Once you've done the best you can try R-M AM900 to clean up then wax.

I've heard of people having trouble with the paint on the outside of the hood cracking after removing the pad, as well. Was there any change to the S version cars that would make a difference in this regard, or does this only happen to people who have an unusual contributing issue (like a clogged cat causing the headers to get super hot)? I was talking to a concours guy a couple of months ago about this, and he told me that he replaced the pad with a new stock one on his car two years ago, and it is already starting to flake apart. Perhaps his was old stock and thus already dry/brittle? In any case, this solidified for me that I want to go naked. I would love to get some reassurance about the hood paint before I do. How hard is it to strip the adhesive off without removing the hood?

my 88 came with it. I like the idea of more engine noise but, not at the cost of my new 5k paint job. Any further info on this happening????

Well, i am thinking of placing one (not the stock though, something with that reflective thermal stuff).

You REALLY spent $5k on a paint job?

it's worth 5k in labor...I actually only spent 2500.00.

A friend of my father's own's a crown collision center in dallas. They put on 5 coats of white and 4 coats of clear. It was rubbed out by hand by one of there professional's there aparently he has alot of year's of expeirence or something. The paint is real thick and with the coats of clear on it .....you kinda look into the paint. It's a paint job that was probably as good as the factory paint so it should last 15+year's if I take care of it....which I plan on doing.

My paint is fine (1990) and I don't see anything else that changed. However it is probably a lot cooler here most of the time than Dubai or sothern US states
