Of course not; but I'd do it anyway. Just for the sake of sane thinking, what would be the max hp goal for a barely streetable car?

Well, i never saw/driven more than the stock. Many here are over 300whp, some are hitting 350, and some are at 400 (rage is at 460whp

I really wouldn't be able to tell, its all up to you, how much HP can your blood take in everyday on the street

Building a daily driven 500hp 951 ain't cheap (I'm not talking about 500hp on race gas, daily driven means pump gas). You'd definately need at least 2.8L, probably 3.0L to do it right. For that money, you can buy a Z06, supercharge it, and still have left over money for tires and track day fees. And it'll run circles around the 500hp 951.

There is no way a vette would keep up with a 951 round a tight course. If you are talking about ovals that is a different matter.
Do you guys in the US import the Ultima??? You will get one of those for vette money and its like a Group C car that can be used on the road, the other alternative's are TVR's or Nobles

I used to have a Ferrari 365 Berlinetta Boxer that was superb once over 100mph (75mph in first gear & over 180mph) but below 3500rpm it had nothing at all and just popped and farted and fouled its plugs. Again all top end power and insufficient torque.
Torque Rules!!!!

Ask any of the serious track guys on here who've ran against Z06's, all of us will agree that it's one hell of a track car, even if its bone stock.

^^^^^ yeah, I didn't really wanna go there, but since someone already mentioned it...don't knock the vettes, the later ones (ie C4 and C5) can handle pretty well, and the definately have some awesome torque. They really are a capable car for auto X/ road racing/ & drag

The story has it Bob drove a Testarossa to a dyno day with a bunch of Vipers, laid down over 1000hp, and drove away
Bob does some crazy ****. IIRC, he might be the only person ever banned from Club Racing

The 968s actualy got a pretty beefy transaxle, (who knows why), and i believe the 951s transaxle wasnt even made by porsche (VW/Audi maybe?).
lol stop reading the magazines, go to a racetrack and run with a good driver in a Z06.

The driveline will be fine…unless you drive like a putz!!
My street car has about 10k miles on it (somewhere between 1 to 2k of that is track miles) and it dynos out at 370rwhp (about 435hp at the crank). Stock 951S transaxle and stock cup clutch. I just recently installed a Spec clutch and alum flywheel – the cup clutch looked almost new.
If you beat the crap put of your car, even stock, you will break it!

Chris, how is the Spec clutch? I have heard awful things about clutch chatter from them. Since you have a lot to compare to I figured you might be a good one to ask.
I also agree a stock trans should hold up, I was addressing the 968 swap more than the posters original question.

If you want 500 bhp and prefer a Porsche I'd get a 928 and add one of Tim Murphy or Andy's SC kits. The stock internals and driveline seems to take it well. Check out the 928 board for more info.

The tube chassis DoomII car was pretty damn incredible.
Actually, they have massive occurances of broken R&P gears. Considering the low volume I would say FAR too many to make that more reliable. They also cost a mint (you could go through a few 951 trans. for the same money) and repair work isnt cheap either. A custom built box would be the way to go for a few pennies more (probably 2K more in total).
A good driver in a Z06 will STOMP a stock 951. A BAD driver in a Z06 will still make him look pretty foolish. Those cars are the best bang for buck sports car available. Damn shame they are Chevrolets.

I don't care what name plate is on a car sometimes. Cars like the Z06 prove that cars made outside of Germany can really perform at the track... even out of the box.
