Guys, if you know me, you know that I hate nothing more in this world than to agree with Randy... However, what you're hearing is primarily the balance shaft belt. If you've heard a 944 with a balance shaft belt that's too tight before, it's hard to mistake.

The whining you hear is from the turbo

For example check out this video of a RX-7 with a BB turbo.

http://sites.vwsport.com/944turbo/turbo%20spool.WMV

That sound is not a belt, it the wheel making that sound.

That does not sound like the balance shaft belt ECUDooberhead, I know as I overtightened mine. It sounded like a worn out washing machine!!!
I'm with NZ and Wes on the other subject though!!! Never get any work done!!!
Lucky old Dan having a girl who's into the porsche's.
By the way ECUDooberhead you should think ya self lucky buying gas at $2.10 a gallon. Its 4x that price in UK and rising faster than the national debt! Why do you think everybody in UK runs euro boxes like VW Polo's or Ford Fistas or worse still oil burning diesels!!!!

I'm sure with the cars you have listed you have no problem paying for gas

I do need to upgrade my profile though- I traded my bike in for a Vrod yesteday!

If you're turbo was spooling up and making boost on idle, we would also hear that big *** blow off valve you have, dont you think? Post a video of the boost gauge making positive pressure, and I'll admit I'm wrong (don;t know if Ahmet will though)...
Cheers

The turbo spins even if it's not making boost...
And you can have a BOV "blow off" even if you're not on boost since it works on vacuum not boost.

Randy,
I haven't seen a VRod before, is it a Harley? Looks pretty purposeful !!
Its not thast I have problems paying for the gas at nearly $8.00 per gallon its just that I really object to it. All the money goes to the government in fuel duty. Over here a tankerload of Gas costs the Gas Station £25,000. Out of this £19,000 is fuel duty to Government, then there is £500 delivery charge making £19,500 then the government comes along and charges you VAT (bit like state tax in US) @ 17.5% Just under £3,500!! So when you calculate it the Government makes £22,500 out of each tankerload of fuel. For the record the gas station makes £250. The trouble is nobody can be bothered to do anything about it. I know if it happened in the US you guys would go ballistic!!!!!

Cheers & Enjoy the new wheels!!

ECUdooberhead,
Wow still arguing.
The turbo is spooling in the video not making positive pressure. on idle.
I never said it was making positive pressure. Even to it can at higher rpm. (i will get video of it )
How many 951 with GT30R turbo's have you hear to say that the turbo make no sound?

The BOV i have doesn't do a special whistle like some other valves. You can hear the pchh at the 7 sec and 9 sec.
I really don't know why you are not hearing the BOV in the video. Listen to it again.

But i will take more video of it later.
Because it sounds even better when i'm driving.

Later.

I just dont hear it, I am not arguiing, as I said before I just hear a balance shaft belt and intake (mine made the same noise when I had a stock turbo). In the end...who cares? You have a nice car though, and thats a good turbo setup. How difficult was it to get it to fit? Any worse than a T04E? When are you going to get her on the dyno, i curious how much power you're making with the GT30.

OK i went and did a few video since i didn't get more last time. The quality of the video's is not crazy since i'm using my new digtal photo cam to do them.
Since i was alone i only did it in 3 gear and just holding it at 10psi.
Please Right click and save as....
http://sites.vwsport.com/944turbo/GT30Rincar10psi.wmv

Same but 15psi ( you can hear the wastegate open )
http://sites.vwsport.com/944turbo/GT30Rincar15psi.wmv

This one is in neutral and i get almost 15psi . WOW
http://sites.vwsport.com/944turbo/GT30Rrevguage.wmv

This one is without the filter revving.
http://sites.vwsport.com/944turbo/revnofilter.wmv

And this video is when i turn it off.

Great videos! I don't get the GT30Rrevguage.wmv to work though.

BTW regarding the whine, it's not even consistant to rpm so that rules out the belt.
