Default 944T axle vs. 924T axle

Whats up with this tech tip on windward perfomances site?

"TECH TIP: Your 944 turbo's transaxle (Manufactured by Audi) cannot tolerate over 350 H.P. (real world) without breaking. Oddly enough, all 924 models have a stronger Porsche-manufactured transaxle."

Any info? thanx!

uh huh, i was thinking if this axel would be better for drag racing, i know its not made for that. What about a mix and match of the 2 axles? SUPERAXLE? A great strip/track axle?

I think Boostguy was experimenting with this. At the end of the day you are better of with a late model 944 tranny...

I've always wondered about that quote on Windward (350hp). I know there are some folks on the list with more power than that. What are you guys doing for a tranny? Have you ever broken the stock one?

Yep...good to about 600 HP as I recall. Currently numerous 928 owners are out there with mills in the range of 500-525 RWHP with no adverse effects reported to date on CV joints/axle shafts.

Totally false. If you drag race the tranny, 270hp would break it. If you don't launch the car in 1st gear (the weak link), it's perfectly fine. Zero problems with the tranny at 450+whp. A lot of big power 951 guys report similar results.

Are 928 axles/cv joints easily interchangable? i have vids of 928's (stock and highly mod ones) burning out or crazily launching the car on 1st gears.

is the 928 axle wider? If it is a nice set of fender flares and 18x12 inch kenisis wheels would be amazing!

What about a 968 tranny in a 951? Seems like I've heard of several folks doing this. Does it bolt right up? What are the considerations. Also, do all 968's come with LSD?

Speedo considerations, I think the 968 is electronic, and its weaker IIRC.
