Default Head Studs

How many of you guys out there are using Raceware studs? How about ARP? What about replacing the studs with stock "strech-type". I am at a point where I need to decide what I am going to replace my studs with as I am assembling my car end of next week when I get the head back from the machine shop.

Raceware in the race car, ARP in my spare engine, factory in my street car. I like the ARP myself, the setting procedure and not having to re-torque them. Factory are good too and cheap.

The only major problem with the factory studs is that they are not designed to be reusable. Is there a reusability factor for the ARP or Raceware studs. IE, how many times can they be reused/torqued down?

Not that they state IIRC...but people have their own opinions. I bet they have a max height that should be looked at, as per manufacturer.

Just a note here, the reason Raceware wants you to retorque the head nuts after running the car is that they believe the headgasket compresses a bit after it's been through it's first heat cycle...it doesn't have anything to do with the actual studs.

Interesting! I wonder if that reasoning applies to both the OE gasket and the metal gasket?

Did you have a metal gasket it leaked?
I also wonder this, as I'll probably go with the metal gasket.

I will likely be going with raceware as they are available through the machine shop I am using at a good price. Anybody on here have an extra set that may be cheaper then my machine shop? Probably not, but it is worth a try. The cost of this entire repair is getting pretty expensive. That and I have the while I'm there bug pretty bad. But, most of this stuff needed to be done since I run the car at Sebring all the time. Meh

I have the ARP studs in my motor with the all metal head gasket. No head gasket related problems after 2,000 miles.

ARP studs:
how did you torqued them? The ARP website saws some very high torque numbers which are way over the factory values.
did you use loctite? which one?
did you retorqued them?
