Just a question, i know that there is a difference between Octane and Ron fuel right? I mean, here in Dubai, we do not have Octane rated fuel, we have RON. So 96 Octane makes how much RON?

Well in my owners manual it listed ron as just 1 or 2 points higher then the recommended octane, so i think its just a different way of measureing the fuel grade?

I think 96RON is about 93 or 94 octane... If it is 94, I get that everytime I gas up Now this is assuming he didnt just get 96 octane race fuel or something from a track

I run 25-50% 104 octane at the race track, and there is a very noticeable difference in power. I assume it is because the computer can advance the timing more since less knocking is sensed.

Well, we have two types of RON ratings here, 96 and 99. Both unleaded, the manual recommends a MINIMUM of 95RON, i just use 99RON. What does 99RON mean in octane?104?

Octane rating is a rating of the ability of the fuel to prevent knock.

For details look at this.

Ok here goes...

What the guys in the USA call octane is PON or pump octane number it is calculated as follows
PON = (RON + MON) / 2
where RON is research octane number and MON is motor octane number

The rest of the World tends to use just RON on it's own, generally speaking to get from RON to USA Octane no (or PON) just subtract 5, so 99 RON in Dubai is roughly equivelent to 94 Octane in the USA

Then add 5 to get from Octane to RON

So 104 octane would be 109 RON, DAMN! that WOULD give you an increase in power

Go to http://www.btinternet.com/~madmole/R...RONMONPON.html for a comprehensive explanation of the distinctions.

Octane does not give horespower, it meerly allows the engine to run more advance, compression, boost, etc. without knock.

If you feel or make more power with higher octane (assuming you do not turn up the boost or advance timing) there is something wrong and the computer has been pulling back timing.

IRRC, the computer doesn't advane timing on it's own due to having a higher octane fuel. You CAN advance the timing with the higher octane, but I do not think the computer will do this automatically.

Anyone else know for sure???
