I need help from anyone who has pulled apart thier parking brake
assembly. I need some step by step procedures. I'm not sure if I need to
pull the entire disc brake assembly off, or if I need to pull the
(mega-foot-pound-torqued) wheel nut off. There are two phillips screws on the wheel between lugs; do they need to be removed? I'm going exploring for the clunking sound that is driving me nuts and the parking brake assembly is one area I want to inspect.
I installed new rear shocks last night and the ride is a little smoother, but the old shock bushings were still good, so this wasn't the clunking. Oh well, they were the original
shocks and with 129,000 miles, they neede replacing.
Thanks for any advice,

Sounds like it could be one of the parking brake shoe retaining springs. At least that's what solved my mysterious rear end rattle/clunk.
Here's a quick and dirty step by step. Money back guarantee if I missed a step:
1 - Remove wheel
2 - Remove caliper (Two bolts holding the caliper to trailing arm)
3 - Remove two philips head screws that hold rotor to the hub
4 - Remove rotor
5 - Look at your parking brake assembly

Does the hub come off by loosening the two phillis head screws or do I need to loosen the wheel nut also? Aren't the parking brakes located inside the hub? I'm not getting a clear picture in my mind of where I'm supposed to be looking.
Thanks,
Gary

You do not need to remove the axle nut to access the parking brake.
After the caliper is removed, remove the two phillips head screws from the rotor. These are brass, and may strip the head if you're not careful. When they're off, you should be able to pull the rotor off. The parking brake will be easily inspected at that point.
