Anti Squeal Brake Shims ???
For those of you with 1988 944 Turbo S or 1989 944 Turbo cars since I dunno if this question applies to other 944 Turbo cars.
My mechanic advised me that installing the new and removing old anti squeal brake shims is a PITA due to the adhesive on those shims heating up under hard braking - such as I would encounter if and when I take the car on the track. He indicated that I would have an easier time simply replacing the pads when I do have a track day in the future. Based on his advice - I decided NOT to have the anti squeal brake shims installed. I have not gotten the car back yet so I do not know how noisy the pads will be without the anti squeal shims.
So the question is for you guys - how many of you run simply brake pads without anti squeal shims ?
ps - I am running Pagid OEM spec pads and Zimmerman OEM spec rotors.

From my experience, your mechanic is exactly right, don't use them and just switch pads after the event. This is what I do. Those shims get stuck on the back of the pads and you need to pry them off with a screw driver before you can take the pad out. So prying off 2 shims per pad, on all eight pads is a real PITA. I run street pads naked and they don't squeal at all. Even my track pads, Pagid Orange's, barely squeal on the street.
But others have had bad problems with squealing. That is just my experience. I really think the level of squealing has to do with type of pads and condition of rotors (warped/material transfer/greasy). Do a search because there's some posts about this.

I haven't used the shims after I had to pry them off the caliper pistons and pads when I first bought my car.
Metalmaster pads squeel only occasionally on the street and PF97s will when they're cold.
