Default Big Rad

Hi,

Who here is running a big rad, where did you order it from, how much, and how well is it performing?
I need one for a street/track car and a dedicated race car.

Thanks,

Andrew Wojteczko

I have used them on my RXs and BMWs before. Cost is usually in the 600 dollar range (though I paid 800 once for a custom). Fluidyne, B-Cool, and others can make anything you want.

Ron Davis promised me for 6 weeks they could make me one for my 540 and then backed out. They do have a lot in stock for certain models though.

Forget the rad, oil cooling is more important. The cooling system on the 951 is good enough (for street). Without mods, it can take some track. However, once you start to add mods to the car, more and more heat would be generated.

The most effective way of cooling is to take out the headers, apply some ceramic coating and add and extra oil cooler. That is, the headers would not have much heater transferred to the oil cooler housing (every noticed how the headers are right above the oil cooler? thus heat from the headers are going directly to the cooling system as in both oil and water).

Temperatures here are 115+ already, my car never sees more than between second and third mark on the temperature gauge, while oil sees 2 bar. That is cruising with the a/c on. Imagine what an extra oil cooler and cooler exhaust headers would do!

For the racecar, we are already running a large front mount oil cooler, and a ceramic coated exhaust. I can't seem to find any reasonably priced all aluminum rads so we'll try the stock, and run the fans on high with a toggle switch on the dash.
