Default ASAP-Need Help On Prices and a Shop

My brother in NY has a 84 944
He just to it to a shop out on Eastern Long Island and they told him he needs:

1- Clutch
2- Master Cyc( They said its leaking )
3- They told him its time to change his timing belt (it was last changed 5 yrs/20kmiles ago

Questions ?
Does he really need to change the belt ?

They want $2150 for the Clutch Job
What should he look to pay?

They want $430 for the Master Cyc
What should he look to pay ?

and $950 for the Timing Belt
What should he look to pay?

I have been out of it a while but that seems pretty steep
Also Does anybody know a good shop in Brooklyn
or out in Eastern Long Island (Southampton / Bridgehampton) ?

Thanks in advance
Ed

Clutch-$1200 to $1500
Master cylinder- $300 tops add $140 for slave
All belts no WP-$700
w/WP-$900

These are prices at a local ind. shop here in Sac.
Does it need a belt, has it been sitting outside, stored for more than a year...I would change it but not for another 10K miles.

Ed,

Don't know if you're interested in this but a good friend of mine in NJ owns a P-car/BMW/Benz shop just a few miles south of the GW bridge. The name of the place is Bergen Imports. He may be able to cut you a deal. I think it's in ridgefield. Ask for Harry. He is a lister as well but doesn't post much.

Well I just replaced my clutch master cylinder and it only cost me around $70 for a new master clinder from pelican parts and a few hours to replace and bleed the fluids.

Well everything is exponentially more expensive in NYC, so those prices probaby aren't at too far out of line....

Dealerships and the like usually get pi$$ed off when you bring parts to them.
