Based on the feedback, it seems as though it might be better to get my K26 upgraded to specs similar to TO4E/T3 if possible for about $600 - 700 and eliminate these other issues, like fitting and back pressure.
Thanks

what is your goal hp wise
It is a pain in the you know what to install a T04e
I suggest you purchase one of the Lindsey racing turbos for your application unless you have some one else install it for you. I had a hell of a time installing the sfr t04b with 8# hotside ( a bit laggy) be carefull removing the two bolts on the base of the turbo. T04b was a tight tight fit T04e will require lots of grinding and fabrication for sure

One other note you will have to upgrade other parts of the car to support the bigger turbo. injectors, chips, maf, exhaust the list goes on and on If you just want 300 hp at the rear you can do it with a kkk 26/8 for sure if tuned properly If I knew what I had experiance before upgradeing there are things I would have done differently. The last thing you want to do is bolt on a big turbo with everything else stock.

300 - 325 is more than enough for me, I have no problems going with a k27/6 or 8, if I can get a good price on one. I do intend to change out the injectors and change the headgasket. Also I will add a Lindsey MAF. Since I need to have work done on the turbo, I just did not want to go back with the K26/6.

Changing injectors is like changing spark plugs ... But you need to correct the software to accept them. I don't think you will see 325 RWH with a K26/8...
but WTFDIK ....

You mean; How's it not going ....:-)
I was planning on starting two weeks ago ... Still cleaning out the garage, almost there .... I would say by Fri. or Sat I should begin it ... I still have to order the replacement gaskets and hoses ... I am leaning towards lindesy for the vacuum hose Kit ... Don't laugh but the hoses along the fire wall that have like a cloth material that's peeling are they Vac hoses or coolant ...?
I assume they are vacuum ...

I will be calling ya (trust me !!)
Thanks Jeremy ...

Im pretty sure they are vacume hoses. I disconnected them when I replaced my clutch master cylinder and no coolant inside.

Sorry for the late reply guys, The adapter plate that we offer, is 3mm thick or about 1/8th. We have installed a bunch of them on T04E's with great success. We usually don't have much problems with the throttle spring.

I installed a T04E with a 57 trim wheel on my 87 and I echo the sentiments made so far. It was a very tight fit. Here's what I had to do.

1)File the top part of the turbo to clear the nipple under the throttle body
2)Index, re-index and re-index the turbo again to make it fit right. My motor was out so this was much easier for me.
3)Remoe stock throttle spring and replace with a custom made one
4)Use an oil restrictor in the oil line fitting to prevent smoke
5)Use an adapter plate to let the square garrett oil tube bolt up to the round Porsche tube (bought mine from Turbo tim)
6)Get a new silicon boot for the 3" inlet (i think they are available in stock diameter inlets though

It was tough, but now that I'm tuning it....it was well worth it. The car is smoking fast.

Sounds like it was worth the effort. I will see how everything goes, but will upgrade even if to a K27.
Thanks!

Can you not use a KKK center section? If so would that prevent the smoking and adapter plate issues?

The smoking issue has been well documented in this forum. Do some searching and you'll see what I mean. Garrett turbo's don't like either the high oil pressures our cars generate or the lousy turbo oil drain back depending on who you talk to. The restrictor fixes that issue.

The adapter plate is also well documented here. You MIGHT be able to get away without it, but my gasket was hanging over the edge of the base plate without it and I was pretty sure that I'd be seeing an oil leak. I'm not sure why you can't use a KKK center section other than that it may not fit with the Garrett side of things. However, I've never seen one offered in that config.
