Default Installing Autometer Gauges....

Ok, I recentley have purchased an Autometer water temperature gauge, and I have a few questions about the install.

Does the 89 851 have an electronic sensor in the temperature sender?

Has anyone installed one of these in their cars? How did you do it? The instructions seriousley lack detail.

Also, I've had an autometer ultra lite a/f gauge that's been sitting in my room for a while that I never got around to installing. The oxygen sensor wire, coming from the gauge goes to an oxygen sensor wire in the DME, which pin number is it on the 1989 DME?

Thanks.

I do not know on the year, but it is PIN 24 i think. As for the water temp sensor. If you look between spark plugs 1 and 2 under the intake mainfold, you should find two sensors. One with a blue head and one with a golden head. The golden head is the water temp sensor for the gauge. Here is alink to a previous post regarding these sensors along with a pic:

yeah, I read that one, and know where the sender is, but I have no clue about the installation. Autometer's installation really lacks detail, it just says install temperature sender. Where do I install it?

Anyone who has installed this unit please shed some light

IF iit's similar to the VDO, you need to supply 12v, ground, and then the signal wire from the sender to your gauge. Ours is a bit different on the track car since we do not have a heater core: we used a jumper hose out the back of the head to the hard pipe over the exhaust manifolds. If you can manage to get a TEE fitting with barbs to that hose, just split it(longer one on the manifold pipeto heater core outlet) then you could have your sender in the top of that TEE fitting.

When I installed mine I followed Danno's instructions here: http://members.rennlist.com/951_racerx/ARM1install.html
My car is an 89 too so you should be set.
